AVID—Advancement Via Individual Determination is a voluntary college-preparatory program designed to ensure that ALL students, and most especially those in the middle will:
Improve their reading, writing, organization, inquiry, goal-setting, and study skills
Succeed in a rigorous college preparatory curriculum
Increase their enrollment in four-year colleges
Exit the program with the skills necessary to be successful at the post-secondary level
Students interested in the AVID program should complete an application form (available in the College and Career Readiness Office) and submit it to their counselors. There will be an interview and selection process through which students will be chosen for the AVID program.
The AVID elective may be repeated for credit. It is the belief of AVID staff that in order to maximize the effectiveness of this program, a student is encouraged to participate in the program grades 9-12.
