6th Grade Social Studies will continue their exploration of ancient China and progress to ancient Greece. Students will explore the various GRAPES categories of each civilization while discussing their impact on today. Sixth grade students have been learning about Chinese geography, three major Chinese philosophies, Emperor Qin's terracotta army and his unification of China. As we continue, students will be learning about the Silk Road and them discuss the various forms of government featured in Greek government.
In April, we will be finishing our westward expansion unit. Students will begin learning about slavery and cause for the division of the country before and during the Civil War.
Upon returning from Spring Break, the 8th grade Social Studies classes will begin the Civil Rights Era unit. Students will learn of the discrimination African Americans faced in our country during the times of segregation. We will study the Montgomery Bus Boycott, the Little Rock Nine, the March on Washington, and the movement for Civil Rights amongst other prominent groups. The students will also have the opportunity to take a virtual Civil Rights Road Trip and create a postcard home from their point of view during that time and location.
