"You can't run away from who you are, but what you can do is run toward who you want to be. Trouble is, you can't run away from yourself."-Coach
This quote is from our upcoming 4th Quarter novel called "Ghost" by Jason Reynolds. Ghost tells the story of Castle Cranshaw, a troubled youth who is trying to cope with a traumatic childhood. When he joins the Defenders track team, he learns that he does not have to let his past define him.
The 8th Grade excelled during the 3rd Quarter study of Holocaust literature. Now we are jumping into their final quarter of middle school which will give them several opportunities to reflect on their experience at DMS. We'll also enjoy a novel either as a whole-class activity or in book clubs. We are allowing each class to "choose their own adventure."
Word fun this quarter focuses on analogies. We recommend having conversations with your child where you both use analogous relationships to explain new concepts they experience in everyday life.
