6th Grade
6th grade science complete their investigation of gravity applying it to how it works in our Solar System. They learned how it affects objects and the formation of the Solar System itself.
Following the formation of the Solar System, the students moved on to the study of Earth's geological history from the formation to today. They learned the methods scientist use to date rocks and fossils in order to organize them on the Geologic Time Scale. To finish out the year we will be looking at Earth's Systems and the Rock and Water Cycle and end off the year with Human Impact on Earth.
7th Grade
What is the difference between uniform and diverse offspring? And how is it possible? Seventh grade students investigated the different types of reproduction in this unit. Students worked on Exploration Lab Stations to learn about advantages and disadvantages of asexual reproduction and sexual reproduction.
Our current unit is The Structure and Function of DNA. Students developed a model to explain the structure of DNA. This prepares students to ask questions about inheritance and variation of traits which will be the focus of our next unit, Albino Squirrels.
8th Grade
We spent the last week before spring break learning about phase changes and the kinetic theory of matter. We then used our observation and inference skills to figure out the identity of 4 different mystery powders in our first lab of the quarter. When we come back, we will begin to investigate the various claims about the cause of the Hindenburg explosion of 1937.
