On December 4, 2024, the 8th grade boys basketball team played against AMS in the A game. Our DMS starting line up was number 22, 23, 24, 13, and number 2!
In the first and second quarter number 13 and 22 both made 3 pointers giving the Cardunals extra points. Not many people recognized it, but the Cardunal was dancing with the cheerleaders during the first quarter! In the end DMS had 4 fouls and AMS had 3. Congrats to the Carudnals for winning 45-21.
Open mat is an after school activity that can help you decide if wrestling is right for you. It teaches the basics of wrestling and is open for students who never wrestled before. Open mat is open to all sixth, seventh and eighth graders and all genders. For students who are interested in participating, they need to fill out a form and pay $25 fee. The first meet was held on November 18th. The group typically meets every Monday, Thursday and Friday for about 90 minutes. Open mat is led by Mr. Wicker and Mr. Joslyn and meets in the Ox gym. Every open mat starts with members rolling out the mats and cleaning them before they start. Then the members jog around the mats and do warmups consisting of push ups and cartwheels. Each open mat focuses on different moves and techniques of wrestling. Some of the key moves are takedowns and pins. Each Friday coaches prepare a fun activity to build strength. One student mentioned “I never wrestled before, but open mat is helping me develop strength and is challenging yet exciting at the same time.” Open mat leads to opportunities to join the DMS regular season wrestling team that starts in January. Also on December 9th there will be a meeting after school giving information for the regular season. If you have any further questions, you can reach out to either Coach Wicker or Joslyn.
