Lights, Camera, Action! The amazing actors have struck the stage and made the audience filled with laughter. With quick changes and scenes where you can't stop laughing, these students did their best on stage. A round of applause for Ella Uppling, Cam Mallo, Lydia Wild, Frankie Lorenz, Tiffany Le, Lila Serafini, Allie Gospodarek, Ella Chamberlin, Javey Baird, Ethan Meygery, Jessa Arcales, Lainey Doherty, Tyler Stobbe, Elliot Angsurant, Addy Hubicek, Ashley Manoj, Connor Tibbets and Mason Prince.
The actors worked hard everyday after school and tried their best on the dance break. Thanks to Miss Olson and Mr Parise and everyone who worked extra hard to make the fall play a wonderful experience.
The Turkey Trot was a fundraiser which took place at lunch, 11/18-11/21. Every $0.25 someone donates, that person gets one vote for a selection of teachers. Whichever teacher won had to wear a turkey costume and walk around during the lunch period. All of the money raised would go to a great cause chosen by the Beta Club, run by Mrs. Sullivan and Mrs. Werner. This year, Mr. Parise won the vote in a very close match up between Mr. Schamrowski and Mr. Ehmen. Mr. Parise walked around the lunchroom in a comical outfit, as people laughed at him.
What is Toys for Tots?
In 1947, Bill Hedricks, a Marine Corps Reserve Major, was asked to delivery handcrafted toys made by his wife, Diane, to an agency that supports children in need. Unfortunately, Bill came back empty handed (or full handed) as he wasn’t able to find such agency. His wife then started to encourage Bill to make his own.
Maj Hendricks and the Marines in his service collected 5,000 toys and distributed all of them in 1947. After seeing the success after the community engagement in 1947, the Commandant directed all of the Marine Reserve Sites to implement a Toys For Tots campaign, transforming it into a national community act in 1948.
How do we Contribute to the Charity?
DMS has a long running tradition of having the 8th graders donate money for the Toys for Tots, and then having a raffle to decide which of those get to go to Target on December 5th to pick out the toys. Now who are these lucky winners you may ask?
Cam Borkowski Ella Chamberlin Brianna de la Pena
Parker Harned Jaxsen Heine Audrey Henk
Nadia Hernandez Brook Hooper Vada LaPorte
Allenna Le Mark Matskiv Chase Mazurkiewicz
Alanna McCrate Saanvika Yama
Let’s hope these 14 students have fun in their trips and pick out plenty gifts for the kids in need!
Holiday in the Hollow
Holiday in the Hollow, a yearly event to celebrate the Christmas festivities with everyone was held on December 7th 2024 at 4:00 pm at Sabatino Park in Sleepy Hollow.
Every year Mr. Bishop would invite singers to come and sing carols at Holiday in the Hollow. This year's event was held as a continuation of that tradition by Mrs. Roy, but also in honor of the late Mr. Bishop.
The event featured many singers including Chorus students from all grades at DMS, as well as friends and volunteers from the community. All present gathered at the pavilion which was beautifully decorated with lights and a Christmas tree, and even a bonfire!
Singers were adorned with all kinds of Christmas accessories such as Santa hats, reindeer antler headbands, and lighted Christmas necklaces. The music was led by Mrs. Roy and accompanied by Ryan Palmer on the piano. The singers did an awesome job singing the carols. Among the songs are Rudolph, Silent Night, Jingle Bells, Deck The Hall, Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, etc.
Thanks to Mr. English, snacks and hot chocolate were made available to all who were present. While some enjoyed the carols with hot cocoa and cookies, others did so while standing near the bonfire.
After the carols, the occasion was graced by the presence of Santa Claus, who came riding in his nicely decorated truck.
It turned out to be a beautiful gathering of family and friends, and a very successful event. Everyone in attendance had fun, and Mr. Bishop was made proud. We hope to see more people next year, to make the event even more successful. Will you be there?
Barnes and Nobles Performance
On December 13th, Bella Voce and Valiant Voices had their annual performance at Barnes and Nobles at 6pm. It was meant to promote the DMS book fairs, meaning that a small percentage of the money used to purchase books or items at the Starbucks were donated to the DMS book fairs. These performers did an outstanding job, and they will continue to do so on their choir concert on December 19th.
