Looking for a job or service opportunity? Try this list put out by the D219 Education to Careers Department.

Below is a list of sites where you can complete brief assessments designed to measure your interests and abilities. The results should help you to identify careers that might be a match for you.

Self Exploration - Many of these sites in this column will provide you with your Holland Code. According to Holland's theory, most people are one of six personality types: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional. Often people show strength in 1, 2 or even 3 of these 6 types; each type correlates with different careers. The University of Missouri puts out a comprehensive description of Holland’s Personality Types if you would like more detailed information on the six types.

Simple Holland Code quiz - will take about 10 minutes. The simple free test will give you plenty of information; you do NOT need to pay for extended results

Holland Code Quiz - simple checklist style, complete in about 5 minutes! Results list possible careers as well as possible programs of study for each career. This site is sponsored by a community college in Oregon.

RIASEC Marker Scales - 48 questions through open source psychometrics project. Should take 5-10 minutes to complete. Your answers here will be used for future research in this field. Your results will show you which Holland types are your strength and you will get a link to the O*Net site for careers that match your letter combination.

My Next Move - an interest inventory by the US Department of Labor’s O’Net site. 60 questions, easy to understand results.

Career Interest Game - put out by the University of Missouri. This one is as simple as clicking on the color and reading the results!

The assessments in this next section will yield a Myers-Briggs Personality Type. Each type is made up of four components derived from one of the 16 personality types.

Humanmetrics - 64 questions on a yes no scale, your results will provide your 4 letter personality type code and loads of information about each type, here is one example. This site also provides a neat link to famous people who have each code.

16 Personalities - you should be able to complete this in less than 15 minutes. There is an agree or disagree scale for each question. Be sure to avoid the neutral answer option for best results. Caution- this site also has a fee based option, but you get great information from the free options, so no need to pay!

PsychCentral - 63 questions in an agree/somewhat/disagree format. Try to avoid choosing the somewhat option for best results. The results are brief but include your 4 letter personality type and a brief description.

What: Chicagoland CareerPathways is a free and open website where young adults and their guides (parents, teachers, counselors, mentors) across Chicagoland can learn about free or low-cost training and certification programs that can lead to rewarding employment. The directory is searchable by career field, eligibility requirements, certification / credential, location, and more. The directory is a resource for adults finishing GED programs as well.

Work Values Test - the results here will show you what you value in a career. Test takes about 5 minutes.

Work Value Inventory - pencil and paper test with simple self scoring instructions. Designed to help the test taker understand what he/she finds meaningful in work.

Personality Test - 120 questions, results are based on “The Big 5”. The Big Five traits are Openness, Conscientiousness, Extroversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism.
