Transportation

Bicycles

All bicycles ridden to school are to be left only in bicycle racks located in designated areas outside the buildings (North) and outside of the Auditorium entrance and the South entrance (West). They should be locked. The school assumes no responsibility for security. Bicycles should not be chained or locked to railings, bushes, shrubs or trees on or near the campus.

Registered riders of school buses will have their identification card marked. These cards are used as bus passes. If lost, a temporary bus pass will be issued at the Bookstore for a nominal fee. Drivers are instructed to not allow riders without a validated ID.

How to apply for bus service is explained in the packets mailed to all students’ homes during the summer.

The District will not be responsible for students who make their own travel arrangements.

Bus routes are mailed home in the summer packet. Additional copies are available in the Main Office.

Parking Regulations – Driving on Campus

Fee: $ 300.00 per year. For students who take Early Bird classes, the cost is $240 per year.

Eligibility: Staff and administration will establish a process (with Board approval) for allocating parking permits, based on available spaces, and will communicate it to students before the start of school.

Procedures: Students may register and pay for a parking permit online through the Security link on the Niles West webpage. The student will report to the security office to pick up their parking sticker and at that tie will sign the student parking agreement.

NORTH: Affix sticker to the back of the rear view mirror. Student parking is allowed ONLY in the student designated area of the North parking lot.

WEST: Affix sticker to the back of the rear view mirror. Student parking is allowed ONLY in the student designated area of the Oakton Street parking lot.

Agreement: The following “STUDENT AGREEMENT FOR PARKING PRIVILEGES” must be completed and signed:

  • The student must hold a valid operator’s license for the State of Illinois.

  • The student agrees to show proof of auto insurance coverage by showing insurance identification or copy of policy if requested.

  • The student must complete a copy of the Student Parking Permit application card.

  • The Niles West student agrees to park in the student designated area of the Oakton Street Parking lot ONLY, while the Niles North student agrees to park in the student designated area of the North Parking lot ONLY!

  • Student agrees to affix school parking sticker behind rearview mirror.

  • The student agrees not to loiter in or drive his/her car around the parking lot or interior roads.

  • Students leaving for lunch in the same vehicle will meet in the parking lot and leave from the parking lot. Picking up passengers in the Auditorium Circle is not allowed during school hours, (clearly marked fire lanes).

  • Students will park their vehicles within the parking spaces identified by the yellow lines.

  • Student will inform Security when new license plates are issued and pick up new parking permits.

  • Students who park on school property may have their vehicles searched at the discretion of the Deans, Director of Security or his/her designee.

  • Students who accumulate a total of two truancies per semester will lose their parking privileges for up to a semester with NO refund money.

  • Students who park in locations assigned to staff members will be considered insubordinate and will receive disciplinary consequences and the loss of the parking privilege.

Penalties: Students without a proper parking pass will be ticketed. Any driving violation can result in the loss of driving privileges with NO refund of money. Any violation of the rules will result in a citation being issued pursuant to Section 51 of Chapter 47 of the Skokie Code of Ordinances.
