Post Doc Advertisement

The Department of Computer Science, in the Swenson College of Science and Engineering (SCSE), at the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) seeks a postdoctoral associate to teach one course per semester and conduct research. This position is funded by the University of Minnesota McKnight Scholarship and ends no later than May 23, 2021. The teaching is in the area of computer science, preferably on topics such as computer organization and architecture or sensors and IoT. The research is in the area of medical informatics, and biomedical engineering, requiring interdisciplinary collaborations with experts such as cardiothoracic surgeons, neuropsychologists, psychologists, physical therapists, dieticians, nurses, and occupational therapists. Job Responsibilities:

• 33%: Teach two courses a year in the Computer Science department.

• 66%: Research in medical informatics and biomedical engineering. Develop and execute research protocols; Participate in on-going collaborative research on existing projects; Mentor undergraduate and graduate researchers in the lab; Communicate research results both written and orally in peer-reviewed publications and at conferences.

Qualifications:

Required: Candidates must have: a PhD in computer science, biomedical informatics, medical informatics, statistics, or a closely related field.

Preferred: (1) strong programming skills in traditional programming or scripting languages; (2) a strong interest in conducting biomedical research and designing innovative biomedical engineering projects; (3) excellent communication and writing skills; (4) a commitment to engaging in highly interdisciplinary teams; (5) experience in working with wearable physiological sensors such as heart rate, brain activity, stress level etc.; and (6) experience with working with other sensors that can interface with a dragon board or a mobile device such as temperature, piezoelectric, pressure etc.
