CYHS Career Classes
Electrical Pre-Apprenticeship Program through IEC
Electricians are in demand in SouthCentral PA with a projected 79 annual openings according to the PA Department of Labor and Industry. In addition to being in demand, this career field is particularly attractive because of the employer supported training. Individuals are hired as electrician apprentices and participate in a four year program where they gain hands on experience as well as theory/classroom curriculum all funded by the employer.
Central York School District in partnership with the Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the Independent Electrical Contractors will launch a pre-apprenticeship program for Central York students in 2017/2018. Participating Central students will complete the theory portion of the first year apprenticeship during their senior year of high school.
This Pre-Apprenticeship program is an example of the high value, industry recognized credential referenced in the Future Ready PA Index.
Students will be enrolled in IEC’s first year apprenticeship program online. The curriculum will take approximately 144 hours to complete. Additionally, IEC and its member companies will offer hands on labs as well as field experiences and mentoring to students throughout the year. Students will earn two elective credits on their high school transcript. Additional instruction will be provided on soft skills, technical writing and communication.
Seniors who have completed Electronics 1 and 2 will be eligible to enroll in the program. Once students turn 18, there may be opportunities for placement in an internship or part-time employment. See the IEC flyer below for more information.
York County School of Technology - Flex Program

Students study robotics and motion control, mechanical design, build and program automated machines, wire and solder electrical circuits, and test and debug programmable logic controllers.
Nail Technology
This program includes a practical and theoretical study of nails. The theory portion includes Pennsylvania Cosmetology Law. Students will successfully complete 100 hours in this course and be eligible to complete a second course next year for an additional 100 hours. Those who successfully complete the total 200 hours over two years will be eligible to apply for a State Board of Cosmetology Examination for licensure in Nail Technology. Certification costs are the student’s responsibility.
