A Space for Students

Wellness Centers Overview

Starting with the 2017-18 school year, a Wellness Center was created at each school site within the district. The Wellness Centers serve as a central location where students can receive various types of counseling services in a private and confidential manner. The Wellness Centers are a core component of the district's comprehensive mental health services aimed at addressing student social-emotional issues. These sacred spaces offer a safe refuge on-campus where students can access supports during school hours. Each Wellness Center is staffed with a team of mental health professionals to help meet the needs of students. Team members may include a School Social Worker, Social Work Student Interns, a community-based (contracted) therapist, and additional support staff.

Over the years, while some of the Wellness Centers have undergone location changes and building improvements, the function remains the same; help students in need. Students are often referred for anxiety or depressive symptoms, grief and loss issues, familial or economic stressors, relationship challenges and substance use problems. Walk-in services are available in addition to internal referrals to the Wellness Center from concerned staff (educators/administration). Supports extend beyond just the individual student; parents are a primary point of contact for Wellness Center staff. Work with parents and caregivers is vital in order to help our students thrive. If you believe your child (or yourself, if a student) would benefit from connecting with a Wellness Center staff member, please contact the School Social Worker at your site.
