*Spend half of an art class just gathering images. Go through magazines and newspapers. Maybe even the scrap paper bins. Gather any images that you are drawn to.
*Spend a class creating painted papers. They don't need to be big. Make paper with watercolor or regular paint that you might want to use.
Positive Space is the space in an artwork that is the image.
Negative Space is the space in the artwork that is the background.

X-acto knives are good for fine details that a pair of scissors just can't cut.
Always start with scissors first and then go to an x-acto knife.
Always use a mat under your work. Always.
To get clean cuts make sure your blade is clean and that you are pulling towards you.

Create images that are in groups of odd numbers. It is more pleasing to the eye.
Don't use scissors. Rip it. Or start with a piece of paper that isn't perfect for your background.
