How To Prepare For Your Audition - Process, Sides, Songs, Steps and More!
Do a little research to get familiar with the play and the characters.
Select the 1 or 2 roles you are most interested in. You may only audition for 2 roles max so there is time to see everyone.
Strive to have your audition sides & songs MEMORIZED. (We will go over audition material at the Summer Intensive, but you'll want to spend time on it on your own, too.)

We may ask you to read a part you did NOT prepare for, just do the best you can.
We aim to make auditions a fun experience. It's really just a chance to explore this fun musical & show off your stuff!
Lastly, the audition panel is made up of several members from the Creative Team. As a unit, we strive to cast the show as equitably & cohesively as possible, considering what's best for the WHOLE COMPANY. Please trust that casting decisions are made with earnestness & care.

You may or not be called back. If you are not, it just means the panel has already seen enough to make their decision about your part.
If you are called back for a principal role song audition, you will spend most of the time on "The Song That Goes Like This". Please learn this song.
We may also learn a small section of another song that is not listed. It could be from another show! This exercise is not designed to trick you – Henry just likes to know how you learn music. Sometimes, students get very anxious while singing their audition song, but they are more relaxed while learning a new piece of music. Everything we ask you to do comes from a place of support. This way, there are more opportunities to shine!

***Special Notes***
Role Casting: We plan to incorporate non-traditional, cross gender casting, with girls playing some of the traditionally male roles, especially considering Patsy, the Historian, Dennis Galahad’s mother, Knights who say Ni, Lead Minstrel, and some of the French Taunters/guards as female. There will also be 2 of Lady of the Lake Mermaids who will sing solos in “Find Your Grail.” Please keep this in mind when preparing for roles.
Dancers: There are plenty of opportunities for strong dancers in this show from tappers to Showgirls to a pas de deux. See more details about Ensemble below.
Accents: Although not mandatory, we would LOVE to hear accents for your audition. After all, every character in the show has a British accent. When in doubt - Listen to snippets of "Monty Python's Search for the Holy Grail" and imitate their accents. Have fun!

The King of England who sets out on a quest to form the Knights of the Roundtable and find the Holy Grail. A charismatic and comedic actor, who brings sincerity to the role, but also a vulnerable side. Strong actor & good singer who can move; Must also be able to improv with the audience.

The leading lady of the show. A Diva. Strong singer and actress with 'it' factor, who can play strength and vulnerability simultaneously, with great comedic timing. Great singing voice is essential, as she must be able to sing effortlessly in many styles and vocal registers. Alto/Soprano with a large range (E3-B6).

Sir Robin
A Knight of the Roundtable. Ironically called ‘Sir Robin the Brave,’ though he couldn’t be more cowardly. Joins the Knights for singing and dancing. A strong comedic actor, who can sing and dance (at the same time). Sings “You Won't Succeed on Broadway”. Tenor/Baritone (D3-G4). Ability to play piano, a plus.

A Knight of the Roundtable. He is fearless to a bloody fault, but through a twist of fate, does discover his ‘softer side. He's gay. Strong comedic actor who sings and can dance. Sings a bit in “Not Dead Yet” & with the Knights of the Round Table. Tenor/Baritone (C3-E4).

A Knight of the Roundtable. Begins as Dennis, a lower class, but politically savvy ‘mud gatherer’ who becomes knighted and transforms into the dashing Sir Galahad. Strong bari/tenor singer & comedic actor, who can move. Sings “Song That Goes Like This”. Tenor (Bb3-Bb5).

King Arthur’s horse and servant. (Male, female or non-binary.) Underappreciated but always longing for King Arthur’s approval. Physically comedic actor who can sing, move and tap dance. Sings “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life.” Alto or Tenor/Bartione (Bb3-G5). We will adjust the key for altos.
FEATURED ENSEMBLE
These versatile performers will play a variety of characters including Knights of the Round Table, Laker Dancers, horses and servants, French guards and citizens, Camelot showgirls, Knights of Ni, Finland citizens, and minstrels. Looking for some strong TAPPERS & Showgirl DANCERS. Harmonies often break into parts, so all must be comfortable holding a vocal line while dancing rigorously. The ensemble appears in multiple large production numbers, and will have fast costume changes, as they play multiple incidental characters throughout.

CHEER SQUAD: A group of female and male singers and dancers who introduce Sir Galahad.

SIR NOT APPEARING: A knight that doesn't quite fit in. Cameo appearance.
THE BLACK KNIGHT: A knight who is always ready to duel despite multiple injuries.
