  • How do I find a science fair topic to research?

    • Project ideas are often the result of a question that a student has about a particular topic of interest. Ideas can also be generated from readings about current science and technology innovations. We have included a list of resources on this website that will provide lots of ideas for interesting projects.



  • What do I need to do to enter my project in the Central Virginia Regional Science Fair? note: By our affiliation with ISEF, students who are in public, private or home school settings within our service area are eligible to enter.


Grades 9-12

    • Let your science teacher know your interest in conducting a research project. Become familiar with the rules and deadlines for completing independent research projects for the appropriate grade level on the homepage of this site. There are forms that should be completed prior to starting research. Failure to complete and submit forms by necessary deadlines would disqualify the project from competing in the fair. Projects are evaluated at the school level and are approved to be submitted for the regional level.


Grades 5-8th

  • Some of the teachers are participating as a class activity and others are allowing students to participate on an individual basis. Students and parents should contact their respective science teachers. Students enter project documents electronically after permission forms are completed.

  • Is the a fee to enter the CVRSF?

    • Regional School Divisions pay an affiliation fee. Private school sand home school student projects pay a per project fee. Contact the CVRSF director at cvrsf@cvgs.k12.va.us for details.
