Overview

Focus:  5th Grade and Middle School Teachers

Are your students ready to begin the science school year using inquiry based learning?

Do your students have time to work on science problem-solving activities?

The Central Virginia Science Fair Steering committee is ready to help you by rolling out our 2024 fair information now, so you can plan your teaching year to include a science fair. The students participating in the regional fair represent elementary & middle schools in Amherst County, Appomattox County, Bedford County, Campbell County, Lynchburg City Schools, and area private schools.  Our fair is an affiliate of the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair that provides the programming for the  new middle school  Junior Innovators Challenge sponsored by Thermofisher Scientific.  Our 2024 fair will combine virtual and in-person events with a goal of reaching as many young scientists in our region as possible.  The Middle School Fair (grades 6-8) consists of a category board with suggestions for science investigations.  Our separate 5th grade challenge gives students a context to practice their skills for investigating and understanding  the science principles studied in elementary school. Teachers will be assigned Google Drive folders to upload required documents for competition.  All projects will be judged virtually. The 5th graders will share their projects virtually. The 6-8th grade fair will be judged virtually and semifinalists will be invited to an in person display of projects and awards on May 15, 2024 hosted by Heritage HS.

Focus:   9th -12 Science Teachers and Students

Our fair is an affiliate of the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair . We encourage students to take the leap and create a science investigation that can be entered in the 51st annual Central Virginia Regional Science Fair. The students participating in the regional fair represent Amherst County, Appomattox County, Bedford County, Campbell County, Lynchburg City Schools, and area private schools. Interested students should contact their HS science teacher about participating. All projects must follow the Regeneron ISEF rules and use the official 2024 forms during the planning and approval process. "The forms should be filled out and signed before any research takes place. (Only Forms 1C, 5B, 7, and the abstract are done after the research.) The dates of the signatures reflect when the approval or consent is given. Use MM/DD/YY format for all dates."
