CVA Welcomes the Hoffmans
by Gabriel Craig
Justin and Elizabeth Hoffman have joined us at CVA and are helping students and staff become more physically active and are implementing their program right here at the CVA Fitness Center. Below is an interview that I was able to conduct so that you can get to know them a little better:
Q.When are you in the Fitness Center?
A.On Monday, Wednesday and Friday I am in from 11:30 to 3:30, and on Tuesday and Thursday I am here from 2:30 to 3:30. We can adjust the hours we are in the Fitness Center based on needs
Q.How did you end up coming to CVA to help kids in the Fitness Center?
A.Originally my wife and I both lived away from Ilion, and then we came back and decided this is our home, we opened a gym on Oswego Street. We opened this gym to make a change in the community. After having our gym open for about a year, Mr. Rich reached out to us and pitched us the idea of helping students by reopening the Fitness Center during the 2021-2022 school year.
Q.What is your goal when working with students in the Fitness Center?
A.Our goal is to get as many students as possible to do some exercise no matter what it is. Hopefully this causes them to be less stressed and feel better about themselves. This may also help improve their ability in a sport. We can work with beginners and help everybody stay safe, healthy, and avoid injuries.
Q.What is your favorite workout?
A.I like lifting heavy weights along with training cardio, and this year I'm going to be running the Turkey Trot for the school
Q.Do you have any kids who contribute to your work?
A.My wife and I have a son who's four and a daughter who’s 3. Our kids contribute heavily to our work; they help us work out and inspire us to keep working.
Q.What is your favorite part about working with students in the fitness center?
A.There are many things I like about working with students, but mainly I enjoy helping students see new faces that they might not have ever seen, along with helping students try new things in the Fitness Center. Lastly, being part of the community is a great feeling.
Meet CVA's Mrs. Gonzalez
by Delaney Francisco
The beautiful Mrs. Gonzalez is a College Now and AP Spanish teacher at Central Valley Academy. She has recently taken the position of Instructional Technology Coach.
Q.What makes you stand out?
A. "I simply work hard and put myself out there."
Q. What drives you to work hard?
A. "My culture is what drives my success."
During the interview, Senora Gonzalez gave me some of her backstory and fun facts. Mrs. Gonzalez has been teaching for the past eleven years and recently in 2018, brought the NYS Seal of Biliteracy to CVA. She stated that she was often reminded of what her parents came from and that is what drove her to be a hard worker. She also loves to stay busy and always learns new and exciting things. Mrs. Gonzalez loves to let kids express and analyze different cultures and viewpoints by learning through different platforms and discussions. She is also a strong female (and based on the interview, she is the true definition of a girl boss). Overall, Mrs. Gonzalez loves the ability to learn and teach others different viewpoints of cultures.
