Syllabus for Accelerated Math 7
Course Description
Accelerated Math 7 combines the curricula of Math 7 and Math 8 into one year. The curriculum, in general, expands on the material of Math 6.
Course Objectives
There are three objectives for the class: 1. Be a good person; 2. Be a good scholar; and 3. Master the Essential Standards for grades 7 and 8.
Course Curriculum
Five topics comprise the Accelerated Math 7 curriculum: Ratios and Proportional Relationships; the Number System; Expressions and Equations; Geometry; and Statistics and Probability.
Class Materials
Textbook – CPM Core Connections, Course 2 and 3.
Notebook – CPM Core Connections, Course 2 and 3 Toolkits
Required Supplies:
· Pencil with/and eraser
· Binder Reminder
· Graph paper composition book, or a binder with graph paper
Optional Supplies I – Items you should have:
· Blue or black pen
· Highlighter
· Calculator with square root key
· Markers
· Colored pencils or crayons
· Scissors
· Glue stick
Optional Supplies II – Items you might need:
· Hand pencil sharpener
· Tape (e.g. Scotch tape)
· Hole punch
· Small stapler
Course Requirements
Assignments in class, practice, and homework will be completed in the notebook/binder.
Unit Tests and Semester Finals will be used to assess progress and achievement. A makeup Unit Test will be allowed for any student earning less than 70% (a C- grade) on a test; within the current quarter. The Semester Finals will not have make up assessments or test corrections.
All tests are scored on a 100 point scale (100%): an A is 90% to 100%; a B is 80% to 89%; a C is 70% to 79%; a D is 60% to 69%; and a F is 50% to 59%. A test score below 50% will be entered as 50% in the grade book.
Accelerated Math 7 students who earn first and second semester grades of B or higher and a score of 70% or greater on the MDTP Integrated 1 Readiness Test will be recommended for enrollment in Integrated 1 for 8th grade math. The MDTP Integrated 1 Readiness Test will be given at the end of Quarter 4. A student who does not meet these requirements may be recommended for enrollment in Math 8.

Homework credit is given for completion (effort) not correctness. To earn credit the calculation setup and all relevant drawings must be included. Each homework assignment is worth 4 points. Incomplete homework (setup/work missing) is worth 3 points. Late homework is accepted. Full credit will be given for homework submitted late 1 week or less from the due date. Beyond 1 week from the due date, late homework will earn 2 points, within the current quarter. Missing Homework is valued at 2 points in the Aeries Gradebook .
Note: Homework is excused (NA, Not Applicable, in the Gradebook) on days when a student is absent. However, a student may submit homework for absent days and receive credit should they choose to complete the work.
