Kindergarten Routines
Morning Routine
Children walk to the classroom accompanied by a parent or caretaker. (No earlier than 7:50am.)
Students hang backpack (without wheels) on a hook. (Please place small snack in basket and leave lunch in backpack.)
Students line up quietly outside until the door opens. (Doors will open by 7:55am.)
Afternoon Routine
Parents or caretakers wait outside school gates prior to dismissal. Please enter campus at 12:30 or 1:20pm and wait outside your child's classroom.
When your child is dismissed, please exit campus promptly as to not disturb Proctor's older students for all of whom class will still be in session. Thank you!
Lunch
Kindergarteners eat lunch at school every day. We will be eating on the tables outside the cafeteria.
If your child brings a lunch, please leave it in his or her backpack.
If your child wishes to have a hot lunch, he or she will need to know their student ID number and be able to type it into a computer. Students will pick up lunch from the cafeteria and bring it back to the eating spot. Cafeteria lunches are free.
Breakfast
Breakfast is available to students in the cafeteria before the start of our school day. (Breakfast will also be free this year but you need to complete the form.) Your child will need to type in his or her student ID, the same as lunch. (We recommend practicing having your child get breakfast before school when it is calmer, before having them get cafeteria lunch. Students will need to be fairly independent during lunch.)
Kindergarten students would like breakfast are STRONGLY encouraged to take this opportunity BEFORE our school day begins. Kindergarteners who participate in the second chance breakfast program end up missing our outside playtime which is critical to their physical, social and emotional development.
Attendance at school is compulsory under California State Law.
REGULAR ATTENDANCE IS THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR IN DETERMINING YOUR CHILD’S SUCCESS IN SCHOOL. Parents have the responsibility to assure that their children attend class on the days school is in session. Of course, children should not attend school if they are ill.
Absence Verification
Report all absences immediately. When a student is absent from school for any reason, call the school on the first day of the absence.
School Office: 510-537-0630
Attendance Line Extension: 4590
When leaving a voicemail state:
Your student’s full name
Teacher’s name and Room #
Date(s) of absence
The reason for the absence
Your name and relationship to the student
Birthdays
Birthdays are very exciting for kindergarteners. We will celebrate at school by giving your child a birthday crown and singing Happy Birthday. Summer birthdays will be celebrated in May. If your child would like to bring in a small prize or goody bag for his/her classmates, please send them in at the beginning of the day and we will help your child pass them out at an appropriate time. (Kindergarten classes have 25 students.) Please do NOT send in cupcakes or food. CVUSD Health policy does not allow us to distribute edible birthday treats . Thank you so much!
Asynchronous Work
We realize that on occasion, your child may need to miss our live instruction. If this happens, please use our website as a helpful resource.
If your child is healthy enough to complete work at home, please have your child:
Spend an additional 15-20 minutes reading.
Practicing sight words or the letters of the alphabet.
*If your child will be absent for more than two days, please email your child's teacher. Your child's teacher can provide you with hard copies of some of the work your child missed. She also may have additional suggestions.
Independent Study-If you plan to request an independent study for your child due to family travel, please be prepared to spend 5 hours working on learning activities for each school day missed. Independent studies must be requested through the office at least one week prior to your trip. They are due the day your student is scheduled to return. Your child's teacher will provide you an activity log on which you can log the learning activities completed with your child. Our website is a great resource for these activities. Your child's teacher may also provide some additional worksheets, etc...
Homework will begin on Friday, August 25. It is a monthly packet that will go home in the Friday Folder. It should also be returned in the Friday Folder. (Friday Folders go home on Fridays and are returned to school each Monday.) Be sure your child has a homework toolbox with pencils, crayons, scissors and glue. It is also helpful to save the reference sheets we send home and have them available in the area your child will complete homework. If you need an additional homework packet for any reason, please feel free to print one using the attached links.
