Decodable readers allow your child the blend the sounds they know into reading. Decodable books encourage children to look at the words rather than the pictures. Please help your child by having them point under each word and blend the sounds of unknown words to read them. We believe a reading combination of the guided reading books and decodable readers is important. Click on the links below for lots of decodable readers. These readers become more difficult as you move down the list.
Listen to the pre-reading book talk. (If there isn't one, look through the pictures on your own and think about what the story will be about.)
Read the book. These are wonderful leveled reading books.. Unfortunately some of the books are not positioned correctly. To fix this, save the PDF to your computer and then rotate the text. Click on this link to see a how to video.
Listen to the post reading book talk. (If there isn't one, retell the story on your own. Use Sammy Summarizer's strategies to help you.)
Continue to reread the book to work on fluency. (This can be done many times over many days.)
