If, after two years, a candidate does not meet the requirements of the CUSD Induction Program, Program Leadership indicates on the Induction Transcript that Program Verification is not complete. The teacher may choose to appeal this administrative decision as outlined in the CUSD Induction Program Grievance Process.
Candidate / Mentor Request for Change
Mentors and new teachers are paired together using a variety of criteria that are intended to increase the likelihood of creating a positive and meaningful relationship. However, as in all relationships, challenges sometimes arise. If you are having significant concerns about your relationship with your mentor or your caseload assignment, please follow the steps below:
Have an honest conversation with your mentor/candidate about what is and is not working in your relationship. Most issues stem from misunderstandings and addressing the situation openly can lead to the resolution of most differences.
If your conversation with your mentor/candidate does not resolve the issue, contact the Program Director. They will work with you in an attempt to resolve the situation.
If the situation cannot be resolved, the Program Director will work to adjust your mentor/candidate as soon as possible.

Cupertino Teacher Induction Program
Grievance Process
Induction Candidates and/or Mentors must adhere to the following process regarding concerns related to the Cupertino Teacher Induction Program:
Requests for change in Induction Mentor assignment:
Discuss concerns with your Mentor in an effort to resolve the issue in good faith.
If resolution is not achieved, contact the Induction Program Director to discuss concern.
Meet with Induction Program Leadership and Mentor/Candidate in an effort to resolve the issue in good faith.
If resolution is not achieved, a change in Mentor or Caseload assignment may occur and/or Induction Program Leadership may bring concern to the Induction Program Advisory Board for possible action/solution.
Concerns or Issues with Completing Induction:
In the event that a Candidate does not meet the Induction program requirements based upon review by program leadership, program leadership will indicate the specific missing items on the candidate’s Demonstration of Completion document. The mentor will then support the candidate with completion of the required work and gather evidence to show that the requirements have been met.
If the candidate disagrees with the assessment of program leadership and believes that he or she has successfully met the requirements, he or she may file a grievance and appeal the decision following the steps below:
Step 1: Informal Complaint
The Candidate may ask that program leadership review their Demonstration of Completion document to determine if the requirements have been met.
Step 2: Formal Complaint Process
If the issue is not resolved within the informal process, a written complaint may be filed with program leadership utilizing the Induction Program Grievance Form.
Program leadership will conduct an investigation and meet with all parties within ten (10) working days of receipt of the complaint.
After the meeting, program leadership will send a written response to the candidate.
Step 3: Appeal to the Induction Advisory Board
If unresolved at Step 2, the candidate may file a complaint with the Induction Advisory Board.
The Induction Advisory Board will conduct an investigation and meet with the candidate within ten (10) working days upon receipt of the complaint.
