Computer Science 

Want to get a head start on computer science before high school? This is an introductory computer science course targeted at upper middle school (grades 7-8). The course takes a wide lens on computer science by covering topics such as problem solving and logic, programming, physical computing, data, and HTML/CSS. Students are empowered to create software and engage with Computer Science as a medium for creativity, communication, and problem solving.


Students  will design and create computer games and develop phone apps. They will have the opportunity to  create apps  that interface with the circuit playground, a micro-computer external board. If time permits, students will also create a multi-page website using HTML and CSS. Computer Science is a one semester class for any 7th and 8th graders who is ready to take on a challenge and plans to have fun. This course is aligned with Computer Science Principles or AP Computer Science Principles in High School.

Multimedia

The Multimedia class runs 7th and 8th grade students through the basics and beyond. Beginning with the MS Office portfolio, iLife, and iWork, students learn to design projects using all of the advanced word processing, presentation and spreadsheet tools . From there, students quickly progress through activities in graphic design, Photoshop, frame animation and iMovie. "Good Morning, Cupertino!" Students in the Multimedia Publications class are responsible for producing Cupertino Middle School's daily announcements via a video webcast. This is an elective for 7th and 8th graders who are adept at using multimedia software like iMovie or Final Cut Pro to create video and online material.

Public Speaking

This course is intended to make students more comfortable with public speaking whilst learning the art and science of speech and debate. Public speaking is an excellent skill to have for one’s academic, professional and personal life.
