Animal Collage
Central Focus
Students will learn that art can be used for documentation and that research can be used to inspire a piece of art. Students will learn that destroying materials can lead to the reconstruction of a beautiful pieces of art.

Anchor Standard 1: Generate and conceptualize artistic ideas and work.
Brainstorm multiple approaches to creative art or design problem.

Explore and invent art-making techniques and approaches.
When making works of art, utilize and care for materials, tools, and equipment in a manner that prevents danger to oneself and others.

Techniques:
Paper:
Cut paper to have geometric shapes (🔴🟧🔺🔶❌🧡)
Rip paper to have organic shapes (🌿🌴🌲🍂🔥💧🌊)
Glue:
Liquid- Use small dots instead of pouring glue out. Make a few dots and then lay down your paper.
Vocabulary:
Collage- a piece of art made by sticking various different materials such as photographs, pieces of paper, or fabric on to a backing
Habitat- the natural home or environment of an animal, plant, or other organism.
Space- to a feeling of depth or three dimensions
Foreground- the part of a view that is nearest to the observer
Middle ground- the part of a view that is between two extreme positions (foregorund/background)
Background- the part of a view that is furthest to the observer
Materials:
✏ Sketchbook, pencil, color construction paper, any newspaper/magazines that you can tear apart (please ask first before destroying), glue, scissors (optional)
Alternative:
If you don't have glue or paper to use, then you will be using google slides or google draw to complete your artwork. You still have to do all of the brainstorming but your final product will be digital.
Project Instructions:
Brainstorm an animal you want to create
Work in layers (glue down one layer at a time)
First layer is your background- Think of where you animal lives and put a color that represents that habitat
Second layer is your animal- Use 2-3 colors to create your animals shape
Third layer is the one defining feature of your animal- Create the shape and make sure it is the biggest thing on your paper since it is the closest to you
Go back in with pencil/pen/ or marker to help define the difference between your foreground, middle ground, and background
