MANNING LIBRARY

Welcome Back!

My name is Mrs. Torrise, and I'm the new librarian at Manning. This is my first year at Manning, and I'm looking forward to getting to know all of our Manning students and their families.  I also want to welcome our new Library Assitant, Jill Stange!

During the first quarter, we will explore ways to build community in our library through collaboration (working together towards common goals) and the exploration and expression of new ideas.

We started the year by reading Be You by Peter H. Reynolds, which encourages readers to embrace and express their unique selves as well as to be compassionate towards others. It is from these lessons that our students will continue to grow as readers and members of our library family.

Our first collaborative project is creating a school-wide paper chain, which will link every Manning student together as a school library community.   Written on each link is a commitment by each student to demonstrate what community building looks like in our library.

The Adopt A Shelf Project!

This week, we started our Adopt a Shelf Project today with 4th and 5th graders. Students keep their shelfs in order and curate their collection during book checkout. Each week one student will win the “Best Shelf” award! Can’t wait to see how they promote their books this year!

There will be many more opportunities in the library for students check books out for independent reading and to express their love of reading through student-led read alouds, book talks, book reviews, and collaborative projects.
