About our Library
The Manning library program provides standards-based enrichment activities and reader’s advisory services for our young readers. Through weekly information literacy lessons and dedicated time to browse and borrow from our diverse collection of over 8,000 books, students are developing the skills they need to be independent readers and critical users of information in and out of school.
Check out what our students have been up to this school year!
The library has been full of storytellers this month. Students across grade levels are studying how writers work, then putting those moves to use in writing of their own.
Fifth graders are learning about writer's craft: the choices an author makes to pull a reader into the very first page. Working in teams, they collaborate on strong openings and launch stories of their own.
Third and fourth graders listened closely to stories about sea animals, then used what they gathered to write letters and journal entries filled with real facts about life underwater.
The Adopt A Shelf Project!
This year, 4th and 5th-grade students will be able to take part in the Adopt a Shelf Project. Students will curate their collection during book checkout. Each week one student will win the “Best Shelf” award! Can’t wait to see how they promote their books this year!
There will be many more opportunities in the library for students check books out for independent reading and to express their love of reading through student-led read alouds, book talks, book reviews, and collaborative projects.
