Summer Worship at CUC

During the summer months, our worship takes on a more intimate format centered on the voices and stories of our community. Through our "This I Believe" series, members and friends share personal reflections on the beliefs, experiences, and values that guide their lives.

Join us each Sunday from June 28 through September 6 for worship, connection, and the opportunity to hear the diverse perspectives that enrich our congregation.

Please note that summer services are not recorded, giving our volunteer tech team an opportunity to rest and recharge before the fall season.

Ingathering - All-Ages Water Communion: "New Beginnings"

We begin our new congregational year with Ingathering Sunday and our annual Water Communion ceremony.

Bring a small amount of water from a place that holds meaning for you—a favorite place, a recent journey, your home, or somewhere special in your life. Together, we’ll combine these waters as a symbol of the experiences, stories, and people we bring with us into a new year of community.

Join us as we reconnect, welcome new beginnings, and look ahead to the year together.

Jewish High Holy Days Service: "Beginning Again"

We gather during the Jewish High Holy Days, a time set aside for spiritual preparation and reflection as a new year begins.

In Western culture, we often think of new beginnings as a clean slate. Many religious traditions, however, understand beginnings as part of a continuous spiral of spiritual development. Beginnings are never completely new; they build on and deepen what came before.

This Sunday, we’ll reflect on the beginnings we are each encountering, what they are building upon, and what is being deepened along the way.

Cultivating Beginner's Mind

Zen Buddhist monk Shunryu Suzuki described “beginner’s mind” as a state of wonder and curiosity that never solidifies into certainty. With beginner’s mind, we remain open to learning, discovery, and the possibility of seeing something in a new way.

During this contemplative service, we’ll consider ways to cultivate beginner’s mind and the benefits it might bring to our lives—especially in an age when knowledge and certainty are always within reach through technology.
