As a teenager, I loved to watch Northern Exposure, a television show about a doctor from New York City who works in a small town in Alaska. I especially enjoyed watching the characters navigate their lives together in their community. Whether at the local bar or through town meetings, they shared their struggles, celebrated their joys, and worked through their differences. I dreamed of one day living in such a small town.
