Lord, I know
you do not reside
in the high blue sky,
but I want to say
thank you
for letting me feel
so strongly
the pull
of ascending
to the heavens.
I turned my face
to the light
and laughed.
The beam, a joy
I hadn’t known.
Lord, I do not know
whether I am
Alien, but
to be immersed
in the celestial waters,
to float among the burning and expanding and
collapsing stars
is a gift
I carry with me
as my body returns
to the earth
which you formed.
Take me again.
Take me whenever you wish.
Send the saucers
and the spaceships
and lift me up to your cheek
for a kiss.
I will be looking up
and waiting
and laughing.
