Walls

L.S. Murphy

The paint cracks

and cracks

down the wall

smiling as it reveals

what it hides.

I spackle,

and spackle,

pasting over the break

adding shiny new eggshell

acrylic finish.

But it splits

   and splits

creating another grinning fissure

no matter how fast I

work to conceal it.

The fractures

forever

exposed.
