Now look, you know your cousins will be there
So be polite, and goodness, please don’t stare.
Don’t worry Mom, we haven’t seen these guys
In years. We’ll do our best to minimize
The slightest discontent that may arise.
Hold on a moment kids. Yes, be polite,
But better yet, prepare to win the fight.
A fight? No, no, a fight is not the thing.
We want a nice and peaceful gathering.
A fight? Oh Dad, that’s not what we will do.
We’ll just smile and nod and amble through
The night. We’ll watch while others overdo.
While others overdo—that’s sure to be
My brother, bumbling fool, I guarantee...
I guarantee the lovely bride and groom...
Wish their reception could have been on Zoom...
Could have eloped, and skipped the family gloom.
