I was thinking of you
when the rain began.
The air heavy around me
with the scent of fresh grass and mud and something like salt,
lingering on my skin
and suddenly my world was underwater.
The rain stayed for days, the sounds helped me sleep.
And when I slept, I dreamed of you again.
I suppose that’s all you are now,
a dream to dream on rainy nights
in strange towns I will never visit again.
