On 16th March, 2021 National Service Scheme (NSS), C.T.T.E College for Women along with the Health Department, Greater Chennai Corporation (Thiru-Vi-Ka-Nagar), organised an awareness programme on TB. 59 NSS volunteers along with the Programme Officers participated in this awareness session. This programme was conducted as a part of World TB Day, observed every year on March 24th, to raise awareness among the NSS volunteers.
The session started with a video explicating the causes and symptoms of TB. Post the screening of the video, the volunteers, and other staff members present were questioned on the history and impact of TB, thus making the session highly interesting and interactive. The team from the Greater Chennai Corporation also provided pamphlets, caps, and badges to the audience. The useful and informative session ended with a pledge by the participants to carry forward the message of preventing and eradicating TB for the welfare of society.

On 15th March 2021 YRC and NSS jointly organised a webinar on “CONSUMER RIGHTS” as a part of the observation of Consumer Rights Day, which falls on 15th March every year.
Mr. S. Baskar, Director of Baskar Education was the Resource person and spoke about healthcare, consumption of food and also about adulteration practised in food items like cool drinks, colour powders etc.,
He also wished to join us to work for the benefit of society. At the end of the session, we received many positive feedbacks from the volunteers. At the time of winding up, we thanked Mr. S. Baskar for this informative session and we assured that we will carry this message for the betterment of society and the event ended by wishing all to let the sweetness fill our life, not our veins.
On 8th February 2021, Greater Chennai Corporation organised a Leprosy Awareness Programme at the JJK Auditorium, C.T.T.E College for Women.
Mr. Issac Arul Kumar and his team from, Department of Health, Chennai District, Govt. of Tamil Nadu created awareness about leprosy and the need to create a leprosy-free nation. The speaker Mr. Kumar also touched upon the COVID-19 precautionary measures. 30 NSS volunteers attended the enlightening programme.
The session was interactive, adhering to the COVID 19 protocols issued by the government including maintaining social distance and wearing masks. Mr. Kumar educated the audience about leprosy and its early symptoms. The participants actively raised many queries regarding leprosy and clarified their doubts.
The session ended with everyone taking a pledge to widely spread awareness in the society on leprosy and its eradication and also to follow COVID-19 precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the virus.

On January 25, 2021, 31 NSS volunteers of CTTE College for Women along with Sembium Traffic Police organised a rally to create awareness on Road Safety. The rally started from CTTE College Campus to Perambur Park, strictly following the COVID 19 safety measures. Respected Principal Dr.S. Sridevi, flagged off the rally, guided by the NSS Programme Officers, Dr. U. Priya and Dr. A. Kasthuri. Volunteers carried placards displaying messages and chanted slogans on road safety such as “Wear Helmet”, “Follow Traffic Rules”, “Drive Safe, Save Lives” etc. The rally ended at Perambur park, with the participants taking a pledge to obey traffic rules. In addition, National Voter’s Day was also observed on the same day, where the volunteers along with the Sembium traffic police took a pledge to be vote responsibly and choose the right government.

On 28th November 2020, National Service Scheme volunteers of CTTE College for Women has organised a webinar on “Constitution of work” to commemorate Indian Constitution Day every year on 26th November. The session started with a welcome address by Dr. A. Kasthuri, NSS Programme Officer, The Preamble of the Constitution was read by an NSS Volunteer Ms. Ruth Joanna Roberts.
Mr.S.Baskar, Advocate, Director of Baskar Education, Centre of Excellence was the guest speaker highlighting Dr. Ambedkar’s pathway and details on when and how he campaigned Constitution against Social discriminations and untouchablity, awareness on voting, British ruling, thus the entire session was overloaded with more interesting information. The session ended by proposing a Vote of Thanks by Ms. Swetha and National Anthem was played.
On 21st November 2020, NSS volunteers of CTTE college For Women along with the NGO team Thuvakkam carried out ‘Plant a Tree’ programme in our college premises. A total of 17 volunteers including volunteers from the NGO were present on the campus around 7.30 am and carried out the work, with all precautionary measures of Covid-19. The programme began with the welcome address by Mr. S Karthik Shiva, a member of Thuvakkam which was followed by the special address by Dr. R. Meenakshi, Vice Principal, CTTE College for Women. For the event, necessary instructions were provided by the Thuvakkam team, based which the students were divided into groups, and with great enthusiasm planted 35 saplings, inside the campus. The first sapling was planted by our dear vice-principal Dr. R. Meenakshi. The rest of the saplings were planted by the NSS volunteers in the allotted place. At the end of the event, the Thuvakkam team encouraged volunteers to participate and involve themselves in more social activities and donated 15 saplings to the NSS volunteers on taking a pledge that they will protect and preserve nature. The event successfully ended after taking a group photo.

A Webinar on ‘World Diabetes Day’ was organised on 08.11.2020 from 11 a.m to 12 p.m via Google Meet. Dr. D. Prasanna, Consultant Physician, Diabetologist and Microbiologist was the resource person for the session. The doctor provided a thorough overview of Diabetes, its symptoms, Gestational Diabetes, PCOS, and also listed proven measures to overcome them. The webinar thus proved to be highly useful for the participants.

A Webinar on cancer awareness was organised jointly by the NSS, RRC and YRC on 7th November,2020 from 5.30 p.m to 6.30 p.m via GMeet. Dr. S Rajeshwari, Consultant Preventive Gynacologist, Gleneagles Global Health City, Chennai was the resource person for the same. In the highly interactive session, the doctor provided a thorough insight into the nature of cancer, the early stages of its development in the human body, breast and cervical cancer risk factors among women and their preventive measures. Dr. Rajeshwari also clarified the doubts asked by the students and public present in the Gmeet and YouTube.

On October 31, 2020, the Young Ribbon Club (YRC) and the National Service Scheme(NSS) organised a webinar via Google Meet in connection with the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day), an initiative by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. The NSS and YRC volunteers and Programme Officers took a pledge by 5.30 p.m to reinforce our commitment to preserve and strengthen our unity. More than 90 volunteers took this pledge to preserve the unity, integrity and security of the nation and also to make possible the vision of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and ensure our contribution to the internal security of our Nation . As a part of this event, to create awareness on COVID - 19, Dr. S. Rajeswari (Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist Preventive Oncologist, Colposcopy Specialist) shared her views and experience as a doctor during the pandemic situation and urged the audience to take all the necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the deadly COVID-19. Volunteers raised queries on how to increase the haemoglobin level and immunity level and cleared their doubts on plasma donation. The webinar ended with a note of thanks to all the doctors, health care workers and sanitation workers for their selfless service.

In accordance with the instruction from the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs and NSS Regional Director and Programme Coordinator, pledge to combat Covid19 was taken by our NSS volunteers on 08 October 2020, urging them to take all necessary precautions to win this Covid19 war. NSS volunteers administered the pledge virtually and recorded their participation.
National Service Scheme celebrated NSS DAY, first time virtually on 24.09.2020. The Chief Guest for the day was Mrs. Adhilakshmi Logamurthy an advocate of Madras High court and a social activist who addressed the students on women’s rights, and the solution when such rights are derived from them, also the various Laws that are available to protect us, including the recent amendments in-laws with examples. The Speaker highlighted that it is important for students to be aware of Laws that are in force created for our protection.
Few volunteers Ms. Sipporal (III B.Sc Mathematics), Ms. Virmilion Aglow Mary (III B.Com (cs))and Ms. Divya (I BBA) read their poem written on the topic “service”. The speaker appreciated their poems and also encouraged them to involve in social activities offering more service to the society, thus the meeting came to an end.
The National Service Scheme (NSS) team of Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women has taken the responsibility with pride to organize and celebrate 74th Independence Day at the college campus on August 15, 2020. With due respect and adherence to the guidelines of the Tamil Nadu government in this pandemic situation, Dr. R. Meenakshi, Principal i/c, hoisted the flag at the College premises. Few NSS volunteers, Programme officers, were present for the celebration. A patriotic speech was delivered by an NSS volunteer. The highlight of this year’s celebration was the opportunity utilized to honour the healthcare workers, Mrs. Prabhavathy, a staff nurse from Rajiv Gandhi Hospital, and Mrs. Asha, Public Relations Officer at Madras Medical Mission, for their sacrifices and services to combat covid19, and protect many lives. They shared their experiences with us and also acknowledged that they felt proud to be in this noble profession, though they were also infected and survived this COVID War. Aimed at developing awareness, cloth masks were distributed at the end of the programme.
