Department - Introduction

The Department of Commerce was established in the year 1985. It was upgraded as a Post Graduate Department in 1990. An additional section was introduced in 2003 with a sanctioned strength of 70. The year 2012 saw the Department acquiring the research status with the introduction of M.Phil. programme.

The Department imparts quality education and hones the professional skills of students, which are of immense value to them. The activities of the Department provide a great scope for contemporary and application-oriented learning. The Department fosters interaction, creative thinking and co-operative learning through Guest Lectures, Seminars and other Department activities. Constant support and encouragement is given to students by fully qualified faculty members to develop competitive skills needed to face the challenges in job market. Value-added and Add-on Certificate Courses are offered to acquire subject-related skills as well as entrepreneurial skills. Infosession, a programme to motivate the advanced learners, is conducted every year and the winners are suitably rewarded. COMACT is another Departmental Activity conducted by the PG students for the UG students. Student co-ordinators of this event get hands-on experience of all managerial concepts. 


Activities - Highlight


Infosession – An oratorical competition on contemporary topics chosen by the students

COMACT -  An annual event consisting of on-stage and off-stage competitions related to commerce-oriented subjects conducted yearly

Value Education – A Power Point Presentation Competition on Value Education–Based Topics conducted yearly

TICARET (Inter-Collegiate competition) – A competition organised by the students, which enabled them to learn managerial skills

GST Workshop – A training programme conducted for three consecutive years

Tally Course – An Add-on course conducted to impart accounting skills among the students using Tally ERP9 Software

COMCAST – A programme to improve the vocabulary and communication skills of the students using English Newspapers

Mini Projects – Research conducted,  presented, published and circulated by the UG and PG students on current topics of importance related to commerce
