2019-2020

The Scientific Research Association for Economics and Finance (SRAEF) in association with the Department of Economics conducted “Know your Economy – An awareness Kindling Test” on 29.2.2020. 225 students participated.

An industrial visit was made to “The New Indian Express group”, Ambattur Industrial Estate Chennai on 19.02.20 by the first year B.Com (G) students.

The students of I B.Com (G) with strength of 138 and 4 staff members were given the opportunity to visit the New Indian Express group.

On 13.02.20 Intercollegiate Competitions called “TICARET FEST 2K20” were organized by the department. 16 colleges participated. Ms. Suchitra Nandhakumar (Head, customer relationship –EXPO FRIEGHT Private limited), Mr. Niranjan (RJ&VJ), Mr. John Kiran.E (Founder of Iconic Dream – Paarambariyam App), Mr. Nathan ( Designer Art Farm School) were the judges for various events. Ms.Abirami Manoj (General Manager –Mrk pvt Ltd.) delivered valedictory address and distributed prizes. Overall trophy was won by Loyola College,Chennai.

On 18.09.20, Comact, Departmental activity was organised by the PG students for UG students. Dr. P.Vijayalakshmi, Assistant Professor, DG. Vaishnav College, delivered the valedictory address and distributed the prizes.

The final year students were taken on an entertainment trip cum industrial visit to Mysore and Coorg for 3 days from 7.9.19 to 9.9.19. The students were given an opportunity to stay together and enjoy themselves with their friends in an informal atmosphere. They were also taken to a SandalWood Oil Division, Mysore. Around 47 students and 4 staff members and 1 assistant accompanied the students. Arrangement for the tour was made with the help of Trinity Tourism. The staff members who accompanied the students were Dr. L Devi Priya, Ms. P. Anubha Jain, Ms. J. Gayathri and Mrs. R. Lenora.

On 03.09.19, a Career Guidance Programme on “Competitive Examinations” was conducted by Prime Educators Chennai; the members created awareness amongst the students about the various competitive examinations. Overall, the programme helped the students to have a better understanding about how to prepare for competitive exams.

On 03.09.19, a Career Guidance Programme was conducted by ICAI Chennai Chartered Accountants. Ms.S.Lakshmi, Mr.Muralidharan and Ms.R.Pritive were the resource persons.The speakers created awareness amongst the students about the profession of Chartered Accountants and shared their personal experiences with them. The session was interactive and motivational.

On 21^st February 2020 Career Guidance Programme was organised for the final year students. The guest speaker was Mr. Safeer A K, Invisor Management Solutions Pvt. Ltd. He rendered a brief note on the professional course CMA (USA). The course duration for the final year students is 6 months and for first year students 2 years, respectively. It is a US Certified MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTANT (CMA) COURSE, which plays a key role to get a professional management job.

A Seminar on “How Safe is Online Banking?” was held on 28^th of August 2019. Dr. V. Ramasubramanian, Professor, ITM, Chennai, was the Chief Guest and Guest Speaker of the day. He is a Practicing Consultant and heads a consulting firm that renders Risk Advisory and Management Services and has served in the Banking Sector for over 25 years both internationally and nationally. He said that a person should have conventional thinking and dynamic acting to be successful. He also enlightened the students on the practical issues relating to Online Banking. He underlined the importance of changing the password every month and also cautioned the audience on the usage of one’s Date of Birth as his/her password and also the various ways to avoid fraud. About 250 students of II B.Com and III B.Com benefited from the programme.

Info Session is a programme organized by the Post Graduate and Research Department of Commerce to give an exposure to students on facts and information. Info Session is a proactive programme conducted as a competition every year by the Post Graduate and Research Department of Commerce to develop the skill of comprehension, presentation, creativity and to disseminate knowledge amidst the students by advanced learners. Students of B.Com (G), B.Com (A&F) and BBA participated in this competition. The screening round was conducted on 29^th of July, 2019 for 40 students and 20 were selected for the next round. A preliminary round was also conducted on 9^th of August 2019 and 12 students were selected for the final round.

The final round was conducted on 14^th of August 2019. Mrs. Sumathi Meenakshi, Assistant Professor, SIVET College, Gowrivakkam, Chennai, who was the Chief Guest of the day.

The commerce association for the year 2019-20 was inaugurated on 19 July 2019 by Thiru. L.Palamalai, Correspondent & Managing Trustee, C.T.T.E Trust.

A guest lecture on the topic “Introduction to Digital Marketing” on July 02 2019 was conducted. Ms. Shobana, Tech Head of NIIT limited, Annanagar, Chennai was the resource person and her presentation covered the impact and importance of digital marketing. Nearly 250 students from B.Com (G) attended the programme.

The Department of Economics under the aegis of the Department of Commerce conducted a guest lecture on “Indian Economy – Challenges Ahead” on the 13 June 2019. Dr. K. Malathi, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, University of Madras was the resource person and her talk covered the problems and challenges in the Indian Economy. Nearly 140 students from B.Com attended and benefited.
