VALEDICTORY PROGRAM

The valedictory ceremony of the Post Graduate and Research Department of Commerce was held on 22nd of March 2021. The yearlong efforts and participation of the students in all the departmental activities and competitions were duly praised by the Chief guests Mr. T. L. Lakshmanan, Retired Spl. Grade Superintendent, HR & CE Department and Mr. P. S. Ramachandran, Treasurer of A.S.S.E.T. Foundation, who are philanthropists, providing financial assistance to students of our college .

COMACT

The Final Year Post Graduate Students utilised the opportunity for conducting virtual COMACT 2020 for B.Com (G) students via Gmeet and Zoom communication. Under the guidance of Ms. P. Anubha Jain, Assistant Professor, Association Coordinator, Department of Commerce, the host was Glancy Chacko.C of II M.Com. Mrs. R. Rajalakshmi, Dean of Academics, Head Department of Commerce welcomed the gathering and spoke a few words about the Virtual COMACT and advised them to “ Keep your eye on the ball and your head in the game” .

WEBINAR

A Webinar about the IMPACT OF SOCIAL MEDIA ON JOB SEEKERS was organized by the Post Graduate and Research Department of Commerce on the 6th of November 2020.

Mrs. S. Rajalakshmi, the Guest Speaker of the day is a Director at Career Tree HR Solutions Pvt.Ltd; she is a seasoned HR professional with over 16+ years of rich professional experience in doing pioneering work in the field of Human Resource & Business Management. She also spends considerable time in developing and building skills of student’s community, especially women students, who hail from economically poor backgrounds and help them get placed in decent jobs. She also mentors many young professionals who aspire to build their career in talent acquisition.

She gave the students a clear picture about how social media profiles of job seekers play a vital role in recruitment at present. She gave a step by step explanation on how to build the profile on the professional platform LinkedIn. She also briefed about other social media platforms like facebook, twitter, etc and even gave some tips on it. She offered free personal consultation for interested students. The session was very interactive when she answered all the queries. The students from second and third years benefitted from the session saying that the webinar gave them an overall idea about the importance of social media profiles for seeking jobs.



MOTIVATIONAL TALK

The guest speaker of the day Mr.Santhosh Muruganantham, is the Founder and CEO of the chain of restaurants ‘KOLAPASI TAKEAWAY’. In the year 2018, ‘KOLAPASI’ won the best restaurant chain award from Indian Business Congress. His motivational speech contained pointers about overcoming difficult times and promoting entrepreneurial ideas in the modern era. The speaker triggered the ideas of the students and also patiently explained all the necessary steps to be followed in the path of entrepreneurial development.

He related many motivating stories from his own life and his inspiring journey to achieve his goals in life. The strong belief of becoming an entrepreneur rather than following the same path as others was evident in his speech. He emphasized to the students that they should look for the problems and find solutions as it is one of the key paths for becoming an entrepreneur. To see that, all it takes is a strong belief and a straight goal. At the end there was a Q/A session where students were able to clarify their doubts. Overall, the guest lecture proved to be very informative and useful to B.Com (General) students.



INFO-SESSION

The Info Session is a programme organized by the Postgraduate and Research Department of Commerce to give an exposure to students on facts and information. The main aim of the session is to motivate advanced learners and kindle interest among slow learners and upgrade oneself with knowledge besides their academic curriculum. Info-session is a proactive programme conducted as a competition every year by the Postgraduate and Research Department of Commerce to develop the skills of comprehension, presentation, creativity and to disseminate knowledge amidst the students by advanced learners. Students of B.Com (G), B.Com (A&F) and BBA participate in this competition. The screening round was conducted on 28th of October, 2020 judged by Dr.S.Shantha Bai, Dr.Gethsi Beulah, Dr.Malarvizhi.P, and Mrs.R. Lenora, Assistant Professors, Postgraduate and Research Department of Commerce. Out of 30 students, 20 were selected for the next round based on relevance and creativity in presenting the information. To identify and bring out the best performance, a preliminary round was conducted on 5th of November 2020. Mrs.Mary Dayana, Assistant Professor, Department of Social Work, judged the students and selected 6 students for the final round.

The final round was conducted on 17th November 2020. Dr.Reena Raj, Head and Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, St.Joseph’s College Of Arts And Science For Women, Hosur, was the Chief Guest of the day. Students who were selected for this round presented information on various topics like India-China Economic War, Misleading Advertisements, Marketing without advertising, through PowerPoint Presentations. Ms. K. Raja Kaleeshwari of II B.Com (G)-B won the first prize. She presented on the topic India-China Economic war, Ms. Dalia Bernadette Lazaro of II B.Com (A&F) bagged the second prize and Sudharshini P of III B.Com (G)-B won the third prize. The Chief Guest was impressed by the active participation of all the students. She placed on record her special appreciation of the papers presented by K. Raja Kaleeshwari and Ms. Dalia Bernadette Lazaro and suggested that the same can be presented in conferences.


ORIENTATION PROGRAM

Paving a way for a Fulfilling Future – Strategies and Tips to crack the Professional Courses.

The second and final year students of B.Com (General) had the opportunity of attending a Career Guidance Program held online by Virtus Academy on 17th August, 2020. The guest speaker CA. Santhoshni M R, Co-founder and Senior Faculty of Virtus Academy gave a broad view of various professional courses like ACCA, CSEET,CMA,CA(UK) and the need behind the enrolment and completion of the same. The session was made lively and interactive by the speaker. Doubts raised by the students were cleared patiently and in an understandable manner. The speaker sowed the seeds of action by giving many useful tips to complete any action initiated by a student. This was explained with the help of different tools like BARS (Budget Action Response) MAGIC (getting the concepts through the brain and retaining it in the subconscious mind) attracted the audience in a big way. The webinar was an eye-opening session for the students of B.Com. to choose their future course of action .

GUEST LECTURE ON AWARENESS AND SCOPE OF GST

A Webinar about the changes incurred post GST was organised by the Postgraduate and Research Department of Commerce on the 10th of July 2020. Mr. V. Selva Kumar, FCA the Guest Speaker of the day is the Proprietor of V Selva Kumar and Associates Chartered Accountants. The firm conducts Audits of Private sector companies, partnership and individual concerns. He enlightened students about GST in detail and on where GST plays a role and how it is computed. The students from second and third year from B.Com (General) benefitted from the session. The speaker answered all their queries and offered part time as well as full time job opportunities to the students.

APTITUDE ACTIVITY PROGRAMME

An Aptitude Activity Programme was organized for second and final year students on 4th March 2020. Some students were selected to frame questions and the rest of the students inside the class were divided into teams and each team was given a question to solve. The students actively took part in the programme and enthusiastically solved the problems. The questions included Aptitude, Connection, Blood Relations, Sequence, and other quant and logical reasoning types. The students felt the activity was fun and since the programme was organized in between the hectic study schedule, the students felt the programme was relaxing and rejuvenating.

WEBINAR

A Webinar on the topic “NEW AGE TECHNOLOGIES” was organized by the Post Graduate and Research Department of Commerce and NIIT on 12th March 2021.

The Resource Person Ms. E. Valli is a Tech Mentor and Programming Trainer in NIIT Limited. She is a domain expert in digital marketing, Programming hibernates and Python with Machine learning. She has conducted various seminars in different colleges.

The webinar gave the students an idea on new ways of working and thinking in terms of Digital, Social, Mobile and emerging technologies.The contents covered in the session were Introduction to Digital marketing, E-Mail Marketing Strategy, Introduction to Mail Chimp, Content Marketing Strategy and Quality content using Canva tool.
