The Valedictory Ceremony for the academic year 2022- 2023 and celebration of one year excellence of 'Milir' was conducted on April 21, 2023. Annual Report for the academic year 2022-2023 of Department of Chemistry was presented and the report of 'Milir' was also presented. Student achievements were presented and prize winners of various competitions conducted by Aurum club were announced and certificates for the students who actively participated in the Department activities were also awarded.
Department of Chemistry organised an intercollegiate Fest "VEDHI'ESTA-2023" on April 21, 2023. Students from various Colleges took part in all competitions. The event was sponsored by "ESOPE". The fest had 3 offline and 3 online events.The winners of the events were awarded a certificate and a medal in the Valedictory.

OFFLINE EVENTS ARTISTRY, CHEM QUIZ AND SPLICE THE MYSTERY
Department of Chemistry in association with Department of Physics organised a Faculty Development Programme on "Nanomaterial Synthesis" on April 5, 2023. Various career opportunities available for the students after the Bachelor's degree were also provided by the Resources Persons.
The Aurum Club of Chemistry Department organized a guest lecture on ‘A Fundamental Approach to Group Theory’ on March 7, 2023 at 2.00 pm. The main objective of this guest lecture was to educate the students on the basics of Group Theory. Students of the Chemistry Department of TDMNS College also joined the lecture through G meet. The Resource person of the lecture was Mrs. K. Kavitha, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, DG Vaishnav College, who explained all the basic terms in Group Theory and demonstrated molecular examples with the ball and stick models. Students participated in the lecture and gained knowledge on Group Theory.
The Department of Chemistry in association with the Centre for Students Development organized a “Talk on Innovation in Science” on February 28, 2023 at 2.00 pm. The Resource Person of the session was Mrs. P. Amalthi, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, IIC Innovation Ambassador, Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women. The students of the Chemistry and Psychology Departments joined the session and were encouraged to think of a solution for the problems existing around them which includes innovation in Science.
The Department of Chemistry conducted a “Painting Competition” on February 15, 2023 on the theme “Science and Human Welfare or Health and Science”. Many students from various schools participated and showcased their talent. The competition was judged by Dr. K. V. Balasubramanian, Meteorologist (Retd), Writer & Translator, and Dr. A Vimala Rani, Assistant Professor, Department of Language, Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women.
The Department of Chemistry organized a workshop "Fun with Science" on February 14, 2023. The Resource Person of the event was Dr. C. Shanmugam Renowned Physics Instructor, Trainer for School Teachers, Indo-Sri Lanka Joint Programme. In the workshop, many fun experiments related to Chemistry and Physics such as lighting a candle without a flame, and Bernoulli’s Principle, etc. were demonstrated and the science behind the experiment was also explained to the students. Around 70 students from various schools took part in the workshop and gained knowledge through fun activities.
Students of the Chemistry Department visited Schneider Electric India Private Limited located at Poonamallee on February 07, 2023. This gave the students an opportunity to learn practically and an provided an exposure to the working of the manufacturing unit.
The 47th Indian Tourist and Industrial Fair was organized at the Island Grounds, Chennai. This exhibition features various stalls, Government departments, State Public Sector institutions, and Central Public Sector institutions. The exhibition was organized by Tamilnadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC). One of the stalls was allocated to the Education Department of Tamilnadu students of various colleges who displayed their projects in their field of Arts as well as Science. On January 28, 2023, students of the Department of Chemistry exhibited their project "Hydrogen - A Green Fuel" and "Precision Fermentation". They interacted with the public explaining the drawbacks of fossil fuels for which hydrogen gas could be a better alternative solution and also explained the precision fermentation process and models of Hydrogen gas production setup and different materials used in precision fermentation which they displayed.
Tamil tradition teaches us to appreciate every source of life. We celebrate the gift of harvest through a four-day festival called Pongal. On January 13, 2023, our college organized "Pongalo Pongal", a cultural program partnered by smileytrips.com and Malaimalar. The Department of Chemistry celebrated Pongal with great enthusiasm and various competitions like Rangoli, folk dances and folk songs were held. The students of the Chemistry Department won the first prize in the Rangoli Competition.
The Department of Chemistry in association with the Centre for Students Development organized a workshop on “Entrepreneurial opportunities in Chemistry” on January 12, 2023 on the occasion of National Youth Day. The Resource Person of the session was Mrs. P. Amalthi, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, IIC Innovation Ambassador, Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women. The students were introduced to various ideas involved with fundamental Chemistry which could be further formulated into an entrepreneurial idea. The resource person gave a brief description of the possibilities available and some product-making was illustrated by the students.
On the occasion of the 50th death anniversary of former Chief Minister Mutharinjar Rajaji, a photo exhibition at the Anna Centenary Library Complex in Chennai was organised by the Government of Tamilnadu. Students of the Department of Chemistry visited on December 26, 2022. Students were taken on a journey through history exploring his interaction with other leaders and some historical events. Students also visited the library.
Unnat Bharat Abhiyan and Consumer Club in association with the Department of Chemistry provided a skill development training programme to the people at Thirukandalam village on December 23, 2022. People were trained on making 'Milir' products like soap. They were also trained in dyeing Fabrics organically, paper recycling and making organic fertilizer and pesticides. Around 50 people benefited from this programme.
The Aurum Club of the Chemistry Department conducted an Intra Departmental PowerPoint Presentation Competition on October 19, 2022, on topics such as 'The Role of Chemistry in Drug Discovery and Development', 'Chemical Waste Management', 'Career and Chemical Sciences', and 'Plastic – A Global Threat'. I, II and III year students of the Chemistry Department showed their active participation. The Competition was judged by Dr. T. Ramya, Assistant professor, Department of Physics, Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women.
The Aurum Club of The Department of Chemistry organized an In-House Lecture on "A Conceptual Introduction to Magnetic Materials" on October 18, 2022 at 2:00 pm. The Basic concepts and properties behind the magnets and various types of magnets were introduced to the students during the session. I, II, and III Year students of the Chemistry Department took part in the session. Dr. T. Ramya, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women served as the resource person for the In-House Lecture.
Students of Department of Chemistry took part in the Workshop and Hands-on training on "Advanced Characterization Techniques for Biomaterials" organized by the Department of Prosthodontics of Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Services on October 12, 2022. Students were taught the techniques, Application and handling of the various instruments such as U-V visible Spectroscopy, Confocal Microscopy, Electron spining, etc..,

The Inauguration Ceremony of the Aurum club and Career Guidance program was organized on September 7, 2022. The newsletter for the academic year 2021-2022 was released by the Chief Guest Dr. C. Karthick, Assistant Professor and Head Department of Chemistry, Thiruthangal Nadar College. The Resource person gave a brief note on various opportunities available to the students in the field of Chemistry and various Government exams conducted across India that might be suitable for the Chemistry graduates.
The students of the Department of Chemistry celebrated Teacher's day on September 05, 2022 as a tribute to their support, hardwork and dedication. A speech was given by the student on Dr.Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan whose birthday is celebrated as Teachers day. It was also the Death anniversary of our founder Dr. Elizabeth Thomas and her vision was recollected in the speech by another student.
On the 75th Independence Day, the Department of Chemistry organized a Tamil Debate on September 2, 2022 based on “Is it art or education that contributes most to India’s development?”. The students of I and II years of the Department took part in the debate and expressed their views on the topic.
The Students of Department of Chemistry were taken to a 3D Light and Sound show at Chennai Kalaivanar Arangam on August 30, 2022 titled "Vidhuthalai Poril Veerathamizhagam" ( Tamilnadu in Freedom struggle).
The Department of Chemistry organised a student induction programme on August 27, 2022 and August 29, 2022. The main purpose of the Student Induction programme was to help new students to know more about the various clubs and wider opportunities available in the institution. The faculty in charge of Clubs and Cells gave a brief orientation about their respective clubs to the students.
The Chennai festival was held for 3 days at Nandanam Government College, Chennai. Arts programs and exhibitions were held from August 19, 2022-August 21, 2022 on behalf of the Tamil Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The students of Department of Chemistry took part in it. The "Milir" Products were on sale.
On account of the birthday of modern chemistry pioneer Berzelius, the Department of Chemistry conducted an Intra Departmental Open Quiz on the 'LIFE OF BERZELIUS' on August 20, 2022. Students from all three years took part in the quiz competition.
The Department of Chemistry organized an Interdepartmental Competition on making organic personal care products on August 16, 2022. The students from various departments took part in the competition and made personal care products which are organic. The competition was judged by Dr. A. Vimala Rani, Assistant Professor, Department of Language, Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women and Mrs. J. Kauser, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce – A & F, Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women.
IIC Regional Meet Southern Zone was held at Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology on July 21, 2022. The products of 'Milir' including varieties of soaps, organically dyed fabrics, organic pesticides and recycled notebooks were on sale.
Students of III B.Sc. Chemistry went on an industrial visit to Modern Bakers Pvt Ltd., (Parle G Plant), Madhavaram on July 15, 2022. The Students visited the biscuit manufacturing facility gaining practical exposure to management skills, etc. The students were taken inside the Parle G baking plant. A skilled personnel explained the various stages of production, starting from raw material till packing of the finished products. They also provided the students a few sample products.
Students of III B.Sc. Chemistry went on a trip to the Vivekananda Illam, Triplicane, Chennai on July 14, 2022. The building is a historic landmark, now called as Vivekanandar Illam in remembrance of Swami Vivekananda staying here for 9 days in 1897. Students saw photographs depicting the history of the building and more pictures of Swami Vivekananda throughout his life. There was a mini theatre showing a 3D Movie of his famous Chicago speech. Students also visited the bookstore functioning there.
Students of II B.Sc. Chemistry went on a field visit to the PUZHAL Lake, Red Hills, on July 13, 2022. This visit was to explore the lake and and its eco-system. This is one of the waterbodies that is fed by the Chembarambakkam Lake, apart from the Adyar River and the Porur lake. It has a capacity to hold water up to a quantity of 3300 million cubic feet.
World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5 every year to remind people about the importance of nature. It is the biggest international day for the environment led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) held annually since 1973. “Only One Earth" is the campaign slogan of 2022 with the focus on “Living Sustainably in Harmony with Nature”. The Department of Chemistry on the occasion of "World Environment Day" organized a 'Planting a Sapling' ceremony on June 6, 2022. It was graced by the presence of Vice Principal Dr.R.Meenakshi. Students enthusiastically planted saplings and promised to care for them.
