As a part of UNNAT BHARATH ABIYAN, the students of B.Sc Mathematics and Chemistry of our college went to government primary school at Athivakam, Thiruvalur district on 29.02.2020.
The students conducted various activities on HEALTH &HIGINE. The Department of Chemistry explained food adulteration and its causes. Also, they demonstrated how to find adulterated food through experiments. The school students have enjoyed the show and some of them participated in the activities on food adulteration. The Department of Mathematics performed a street play to spread awareness about personal hygiene and the importance of keeping the environment clean. The village people are also taken part and enjoyed the street play. From these activities, the school students acquired knowledge about good habits and personal hygiene. We also cherished all the students by giving them a stationary kit which consists of a pen, a ruler, a pencil, a sharpener and an eraser. Finally, the Head Mistress of the School appreciated our students and the college for their initiative in spreading the awareness about food adulteration, Health and Hygiene.
To celebrate the National Science Day 2020, the Departments of Basic science (Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry) visited “Cholavaram Panchayat Elementary School” at Siruvapuri village, Thiruvallur District on Feb 28, 2020
The purpose of the visit is to inspire students towards various concepts, models, experiments and explain to them the importance of science especially the different applications of Mathematics. Also, our students created awareness about the various aspects and achievements in different fields of science. The students of the Department of Mathematics demonstrated the mathematics behind the Eiffel tower, fraction models (2D and 3D), Swing rides, and different Mathematical shapes with different colours through models. Also conducted various Math tricky games and Coin games to attract the students towards mathematics.
On February 24, 2020 SIGMA Club of Department of Mathematics, Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women conducted the valedictory function of SIGMA club activities 2019-20. The resource person Dr.N.Hema, Associate Professor, D.G. Vaishnav College, Chennai distributed the prizes for the winners of all competitions conducted by the Sigma club in the academic year 2019-2020.
On February 24, 2020 SIGMA Club of Department of Mathematics, Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women conducted a guest lecture on the topic “An Outline of Certain Patterns and their Mathematical Structures”. Dr.N.Hema, Associate Professor, D.G. Vaishnav College, Chennai was the resource person. She explained about complex patterns involved in nature such as branches of trees, lightning, Broccoli ,etc.
The Inter-departmental activity Sudoku and powerpoint presentation wereheld on February 21, 2020. Nearly 40 students from various disciplines participated in Sudoku and t teams (8 students) participated in powerpoint presentation on the topic “Mathematics in Designing”, judged by Dr.R.Kavitha, Assistant professor, Department of Mathematics and Mrs.D.Ramani Bai, Assistant professor, Department of Mathematics
The Department of Mathematics along with the Department of Physics, Computer Science, Computer Application, Chemistry and Psychology organized a Career Guidance programme for the science students on February 3, 2020. Mr. Jaya Prakash Gandhi, Career Consultant and Analyst was the resource person.
Department of Mathematics conducted a special lecture on the topic “Construction of Mathematical Modeling” on 17th Dec 2019. The resource person for this special lecture was Dr.M.Pitchaimani, Assistant Professor, Ramanujam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics, University of Madras, Chennai. He explained the basic concepts of Metric Space, Sets, Differential Equation, Kernal, Growth Decay method. He finished the lecture by covering the topics Application of Fourier Transform in Real Life, Open Sets and Closed Sets. The special lecture was very useful and informative for the students. This was followed by the Math Replica for the students on the topic “Application of Mathematics in the various field” judged by Dr.T.Ramya, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics and Mrs.N.Anuradha, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry. Students presented models on Operation Research, Mechanics, Topology, Trigonometry, and Symmetry.
Department of Mathematics of Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women inaugurated the Mathematics Club SIGMA by releasing the newsletter Inspire 2019 followed by the Discrete Mathematics Day celebration on September 13, 2019. Dr.Hanifa Ghosh, Principal, CTTE College for women has released the newsletter and the first copy was received by Dr.R.Meenakshi, Vice Principal, CTTE College for women. On behalf of Discrete Mathematics Day, students of III B.Sc Mathematics displayed various models, presentations and conducted games based on the concept from Discrete Mathematics. Faculty and students from other disciplines of our college visited the models and enjoyed the games.
