Our shop advisory committees are passionate about their apprentices/ employees not being dependent on the phone and using it throughout the workday. The students have chrome books for use in theory. In case of emergency please call the main office and they will contact us. For Students on Off-site Production I will allow them to have phones on in case of emergency . We will follow the school phone policy when dealing with violations.

Discipline Policy
*Misuse of Hand or Power tools will result in immediate removal from the shop.
First infraction will result in a verbal warning and/or written assignment.
Second infraction will result in one or more detentions or written assignments and a phone call to parent or guardian.
Third infraction will result in one or more detentions or written assignments and a meeting with parent or guardian.
Fourth infraction will result in the student being referred to the carpentry department head for discipline.
Further infractions will be directed to the school’s administration.
Infractions include, but are not limited to, all the items listed in the school handbook. Infractions in shops of particular importance are the use of profane language; physical contact between students, verbal taunts (sexual, ethnic, intellectual or physical attributes) unauthorized use of other classmate's tools and practical joking. While some of these items may seem trivial, they have in the past escalated to more serious actions. Our goal is to show the students how to act professionally in many varied situations and to teach them how to work cooperatively with other people. This year our shop is going to concentrate on inappropriate comments. If students make comments of a sexual or harassing nature they will be sent to administration promptly. This is to curb such behavior quickly. We realize that there may be slip-ups now and then, but we hope that we will not have to progress beyond step one or two. If you have any questions, please feel to call me at 860-344-7100 ext.18387 or 18388

For every one day absence a zero will be entered in Power school. The Student will have one day to complete make-up and grade of 50 will be entered upon completion .Due to loss of time and content in shop the Student can improve daily grade by making arrangements with Instructor after school to complete missed content. If either part of make-up is not completed grade will stay as a zero.
WBL
Students on WBL have received a packet on rules of this opportunity and must maintain grades both academically and in shop. (75 or better).
Student's responsibility to turn in weekly job performance sheets completed by employer and or supervisor.
Students need to call in/or email the instructor at 7:19 am, to report that they are going to work or if they're absent for another reason.
Carpentry Theory Rules
Each day the student is required to have these items present for theory.
1. 3 ring binder
2. Lined white paper (no spiral bound)
3. #2 pencils
4. Pens
5. Architects scale
6. Calculator (construction calculator preferred)
7. Chromebooks (not cell phones) If Student does not have chrome book charged and ready for class cell phones will not be allowed for completion. The Student will lose 20% of his daily grade and will need to complete assignment after school or once prepared.
Students will be required to keep a notebook of each theory lesson and a daily journal of what is completed by the student during shop time. Handouts and assignments will also be stored in their binders. This will act as a reference and study guide that the student will use until graduation.
The notebook is a part of the grade for theory.
Production
Behavioral Rules & Expectations
Outside production work is a key part of the carpentry curriculum. In order for the program to be successful there is an expectation of professional behavior by the students. When the class is out in the public view, they not only represent themselves, but the shop and Vinal Tech. The following rules are being set in place so that the students will understand what is expected from them, as young adults representing Vinal and what consequences will result if they choose to act inappropriately.
1. Students will refrain from loud, vulgar and inappropriate language.
2. Students will dress for the weather conditions on the jobsite. This includes but is not limited to the shop uniform and tool belt with the necessary hand tools required by the scope of the work being done. Tool belts must be worn at all times during the work day.
3. Students will not "snoop" or make notice of the customer’s property. Their job is to work on the property, not see what is there.
4. As part of the school wide rule on "electronic devices". No cell phone use is allowed.
5. Horseplay is strictly forbidden.
6. Students will have no physical contact with each other.
7. When on the bus to and from the job site the students will sit quietly and not shout, stare or in any way draw attention to themselves from the general public.
8. Students will sit in their assigned seat on the bus to and from the jobsite. Students will be held responsible for any damage to their assigned seat.
9. Student's behavior during the times that they are in shop and/ or academics will also be used to consider whether they should be allowed to participate in outside production.
10. Students will abide by all the rules in the student handbook
The state has issued new "Student Transportation Vehicles" and is setting in place strict new rules to keep them in excellent condition for years to come. This is the reason for the assigned seating and holding the student/parent responsible for any damage caused by the student. Each day the student and instructor will inspect the "STV" for any damage. Once before leaving for the jobsite and then upon return. This will ensure that no student should be held accountable for something they may not have done.
Consequences for failure to abide by the rules above will be based on the severity of the infraction. It may be as limited as not being allowed out on production for a single day to complete elimination of outside production for the remainder of the school year. If there is a situation where the student or students cannot be placed in a shop because the other instructor has 18 students, then administration will assign that student elsewhere.
