CTECS Social Studies Elective Course
Introduction:
Psychology is the scientific study of human behavior and mental processes. In this course, students will be introduced to the historical development of Psychology and will learn about personality development, learning theories, biological reasons for behaviors, heredity versus environment, memory, abnormal psychology, current mental health issues, and human maturation and development. Students will be introduced to a variety of psychological studies and theories and will participate in experiments, discussions, group projects, and analyze case studies to understand how people think and feel. The purpose of this course is to allow students to develop an understanding of social behavior and attitudes, as well as the skills to address critical problems of the individual and society. This curriculum was created using prioritized standards from the American Psychological Association's National Standards for High School Psychology Curricula in conjunction with the College, Career, and Civic Life (C3) Framework for Social Studies State Standards.
