Networking
Connecticut Technical High Schools has one of the most comprehensive wireless and networking infrastructures around. Each school is connected to the district data center via fiber with either a 1 Gbps or 10 Gbps connection, depending on the location. This system provides our schools with a 1 gig or 10gig connection to the Internet. As a comparison, home Internet that is considered ‘fast’ is advertised with only a 15Mbps connection. The network is built with redundancy in mind, so even a hiccup doesn’t disrupt the students’ and teachers’ access to their file servers.
Wireless
. Our goal is to provide the best possible experience for students and teachers to utilize the tools available to the 21st century classroom. While our own device connection is encrypted and secure, CTHSS supports guest device access as well.
District Access
CTHSS leverages the Google apps for education model. That being said we great use the cloud based applications and storage and encourage our staff and students to use these. The Google environment has provided a stable environment for all of these groups the co-exist in and work collaboratively.
All CTHSS School District staff members and students have cthss.org email accounts in the system. This system is web-baased hosted and has a 99.9% uptime. It is our goal that students would be able to communicate with their teachers and classmates for educational purposes, just as an employee might communicate with colleagues and supervisors: asking questions, sending appointment requests, and assigning tasks. The skills provided through this software are helping prepare our students for college and careers.
Security
The CTHSS School District takes seriously our obligation to comply with the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) and federal guidelines mandating how schools give internet access to students. CTHSS employs a content filtering system to ensure safe Internet use. Because of our commitment to keeping kids safe, we also use an antivirus solution, keep a firewall enabled.
