Connecticut Technical Education and Career System
Software Evaluation Process
The Connecticut Technical Education and Career System has been operating under a process for evaluating software packages/applications. The process is broken up into a number of steps the first of which is the software evaluation submission which begins with someone finding software that they wish to use.
Step 1
Software Evaluation Submission
The online software submission form initiates the process. This form is sent to the Central Office. Once it is received, Department staff will review the application and wait to receive any additional materials such as software license information, software media and in some cases the initial phase of the quality assessment. This package is then sent to a software assessment committee which directs the process thereafter.
Software Quality Assessment
The next step in this process is for the software to be assessed. For curriculum related software there is a two phase quality evaluation process. The first phase of the curriculum related software quality assessment can be filled out by anyone submitting the software for evaluation. The next phase of this assessment is covered in Step 3. It is normally filled out by a departmental consultant responsible for the particular curricular area the software is focussed on. For non-curriculum related software a quality assessment will need to be arranged. Contact information for arranging an assessment is in Step 2.
Technical and Quality Assessment
The final step in this process is for the software to be reviewed and assessed. A software package must be evaluated from both a quality and a technical standpoint. Technical assessments are normally done by Department of Education staff. Phase 2 quality assessments for curriculum and curriculum support evaluations are normally done by departmental consultants.
