The first and best way for families to get involved with the One-to-One Initiative is to ask a student about it! You can get an account of how the devices are being used in our schools straight from the source. We encourage parents/guardians to talk to their students about their school work and ask to see how the student is using the device. We also encourage parents to require their children to use the CTHSS device in a common room of the house. Since the device’s purpose is to support education, the parents have every right to be fully involved in whatever is happening on the device. Some of our schools offer family technology nights, in which outside presenters give information regarding Internet safety and ways to use the technology effectively. Check your school’s calendar or contact the main office for more information. There are many sites that offer excellent resources for parents and families of students who use technology. A great place to start is theSchool Safety Center from the Washington State Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction. You can also get valuable information on digital literacy and citizenship from Common Sense Media’s parent information page.
Questions regarding this information can be directed to your school’s main office.
