Found Poetry

Found poetry takes existing texts and refashions them, reorders them, and presents them as poems. A pure found poem consists exclusively of outside texts: the words of the poem remain as they were found, with few additions or omissions. Decisions of form, such as where to break a line, are left to the poet. In this activity you will create your own poetry according the instructions provided.

Out of the Box

What are some of the reasons that you chose to read your summer reading book? Was there a topic that interested you? Is there something in the book that relates to one of your favorite academic subjects in school? Or is this something that you can see reflects ideas you learn in trade? This project option allows you to put your creative cap on and make your book come to life!

One Pager

Have you ever read a book where you saw all the characters in your imagination so clearly you thought they would walk right off the page? A one-pager allows you to create a visual representation of different parts of your book--from the plot to the characters to the symbols you find while reading.

It’s a way for you to be bold and creative and use your imagination.

Video and Booksnaps

Create a Video

For this assignment you will record a video that gives the viewer important information about the book to help them decide if they want to read it. You will provide the highlights of the book. You can create a Book Talk or Talk-Show Style Interview – work with a partner who will ask you interview questions that provide the above information about the book.

OR

Create a Presentation Using Booksnaps

Booksnaps are images that look like Snapchat posts. They include a picture of text from the book with added images that reflect your reaction or thoughts about it.

For this assignment you will use Booksnaps to highlight parts of the book that you want to share with your audience. Using Booksnaps you will express your feelings and show how you connect with quotes from the text using digital tools such as annotations, bitmojis, stickers, and images. You can also use text in the quote image to respond to the quote or tell the viewer more about it.

Reading Response Charts

In this activity you will complete a response chart that corresponds to the type of book you chose to read. Complete either the fiction or the nonfiction (biographies, memoirs, trade related content, etc.) chart. No matter which type of book you read you will have to make a judgement about the author's purpose.
