Shoply is a crowdsourced price tracking and shopping optimization platform designed to solve the gap between online and in-store price discrepancies. By allowing users to scan product barcodes during shopping, Shoply builds a real-time, hyper-localized database of product prices. This data empowers users to generate optimized shopping plans that recommend visiting multiple stores to maximize savings while minimizing effort. The project’s MVP focuses on barcode scanning for price collection, storage of localized pricing data in MongoDB, and backend management through Spring Boot APIs. The platform incorporates gamified incentives to encourage user participation and plans to expand with retailer partnerships, advanced analytics, and AI-powered features after the capstone phase. Through grassroots data collection, Shoply offers an innovative, scalable solution that addresses the shortcomings of traditional price comparison tools and sets the foundation for future retail integrations.
