Building a Honeynet for IoT Devices to Analyze and Mitigate Vulnerabilities
Building a Honeynet for IoT Devices to Analyze and Mitigate Vulnerabilities
The Honeynet Project addresses the need for real-world cybersecurity awareness and threat intelligence. We deployed an internet-facing honeynet (a collection of traps for hackers) to attract and log live real world attacks, helping us study current threats and attacker behavior. Simultaneously, we built a local sandbox for students to practice red team vs. blue team hacking exercises, allowing for hands-on practice in offensive and defensive tactics. Together, these environments provide valuable insights into modern attack vectors and enhance practical cybersecurity skills.
