CSUMB's College of Business is the only one of its kind in the world to teach Responsible Business and the Quintuple Bottom Line (QBL) as core concepts. The QBL goes beyond the traditional triple bottom line of profit, people and planet by incorporating ethics and equity into business practices and everyday decision-making.
The 2025 International Responsible Business and Social Impact (IRBSI), sponsored by SVRI, highlighted the theme “Stablecoin in Business Innovation: Code Meets Commerce and Regulation,” showcasing research that bridges technology, business, and policy in shaping digital finance. The event also featured the 2nd Innovation for Social Impact Student Competition, recognizing Rachel Malamed (MBA) as the winner for Pet Psychiatry Hub and Erica Graham and Cynthia Arvizu Vazquez (BSBA) as runners-up for Seawise System: From Space to Spoil.
The College of Business hosted its annual Ethics & Responsible Business Forum on Monday, March 23, 2026, as an online Zoom webinar. Centered on the theme, "How Companies Can Do the Right Thing in a Turbulent World," the forum brought together thought leaders from academia and industry to discuss ethical leadership, responsible decision-making, and sustainability in today's complex business environment.
The event featured keynote presentations from Alison Taylor, Clinical Professor at NYU Stern and author of Higher Ground; Dr. Angie Tran from the CAHSS Department of Social Sciences and Global Studies; Derek Martin, Associate Director for Safety, Risk, and Sustainability; and Dr. Phill Post, Dean of the College of Health Sciences and Human Services. Each speaker offered valuable insights on the role of ethics in business and the importance of responsible leadership across organizations.
Our annual Ethics & Responsible Business Forum was well attended and demonstrated meaningful engagement and impact by the College of Business within our community. The thoughtful discussions and participation from attendees reinforced the importance of fostering ethical business practices and collaborative dialogue.
A special thank-you goes to the event committee members whose hard work and dedication made this successful event possible.

Responsible Business is a management philosophy that seeks to create mutual value by balancing profit with the well-being of the community, employees, and the natural environment. A Responsible Business seeks to profitably, ethically, and equitably, solve problems while at the same time, avoiding the creation of new problems.
Innovation arises from a multitude of sources, reflecting the diverse needs, challenges, and opportunities present in society. Understanding these sources can help individuals and organizations harness their potential for creating new ideas, products, and processes.
