All candidates in the Education Specialist program are prepared to demonstrate knowledge of developing English Language skills among all pupils including students for whom English is a second language. Course of study for candidates includes courses for the embedded English Language Development (ELD) authorization within the Multiple Subject credential. Candidates complete the following courses their first summer semester:
Cal State East Bay determines, prior to admission to the Education Specialist Mild/Moderate and Moderate/Severe Disabilities credential program, if candidates have met the subject matter preparation requirement, or its equivalent.
The Credentials Student Service Center (CSSC) tracks the admission process and verifies that applicants have all requirements for admission. Included in their responsibilities are the maintaining records from applicants regarding their status vis a vis subject matter preparation.
Each candidate must meet the subject matter requirement prior to being given daily whole class instructional responsibilities in TK-12 school.
Educational Specialist candidates may satisfy this requirement through two options:
Achieved a passing score on the California Subject Examination for Teachers (CSET: Multiple Subjects) Subtests 101, 102 (or 214), 103) or satisfactorily completed a subject matter program appropriate to the credential and approved by the CTC.
Achieved a passing score on any CSET that is required for a single subject credential sought or satisfactorily completed a subject matter program appropriate to the credential and approved by the CTC.
All information is kept in a database by the Credentials Student Service Center (CSSC).
