This document identifies Nursing Technology Requirements. Please review and confirm you have these readily available.
Within every nursing course is a module called Course Resources. Within it is a Google Doc called Course Technologies with links to common technology help on Brightspace, Zoom, Google Apps and Turnitin. Take some time to explore this resource.
Please note Brightspace Platform Requirements (supported hardware and browsers).
In many places while navigating CSS, you must prove you are who you say you are using DUO two-factor authentication (here is a 2-minute Video). When it is time for you to complete your Duo enrollment, you will receive an email from Duo Security (no-reply@duosecurity.com) with a unique enrollment link. Follow the screen prompts on the enrollment web page when the link opens.
Once you have gone through the enrollment wizard, your account will be Duo-activated within 1-3 days.
We recommend you select push notifications. The "push" option means you will receive a notification directly to the Duo mobile app on your cell phone.
Complete your authentication by clicking "Approve" on your Duo app.
my.CSS.edu (below) is where you log into your courses, see college announcements, and access resources. The menu to the right describes the icons above the blue bar.
Bookmark this URL. The Help menu is different on the my.css page and your courses pages.
Under "Help & Resources" is "Contact IT Service Desk." Contact them if you have technical issues. They are here to help! Note their hours. They are usually available for more than 12 hours every day.
On the my.css page, search for Information Technologies. Here you will find:
Under Information & Resources
Account Information (account lookup, contact info, reset password)
Under Forms & Tools
Software Downloads (access Microsoft Office online for FREE)
Brightspace for Students course will be available to you as soon as you are enrolled. Complete this course to learn Brightspace. Within your Brightspace course, on the top navbar, is a menu called "Help & Resources." At the top is Brightspace Help. This is a good place to search for help. See the Brightspace video playlist for video help.

Brightspace Pulse Mobile App is available for Android and iOS devices, including iPads. With Pulse, you can use your mobile device to:
Keep on track with your workload and tasks
View course content
Receive course and subscription notifications
Google products are a big part of your learning experience at CSS. You will be using Google Apps regularly and many assignments will require you to attach a document from your Drive rather than from your computer. You must link the two products to allow interaction between Brightspace and Google. Here's a tutorial.
Click the question mark for support
Click the gear to change your settings
Click the grid (waffle) to discover built-in apps.
Click the pic or avatar to set your profile or to change accounts
We recommend using Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. We are a Google college, so certain applications in Brightspace may not work if you are not using Chrome. But, both browsers change routinely, so sometimes, if one doesn't work, try the other! See this page to see supported browsers for Brightspace (desktop and mobile).
Many Unit Readings and worksheets are in Google Drive, a cloud-based storage locker. If you are NOT actively logged in to your CSS Google/Gmail account, you may encounter a message to ‘Request Permission’ to view the Unit Reading. If you encounter this message or cannot open the file, either:
Log into your CSS Gmail account (if you do NOT have anything Google open), OR
Switch to your CSS Google Account (if you are logged into another Google account)
On a computer, open the file using a web browser
On the "You need permission" page, click Switch accounts.
Sign in with your CSS credentials.
When you open a shared document and want to save it to make edits (e.g., a worksheet), you have two options AFTER you open the file:
Click File in the top menu and then click Save a Copy (to your college Google Drive folder), OR
Click File in the top menu and then click Download as (select the file type you prefer).
Google Apps allow users to share files (even PDFs, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint files) and collaborate online. You can get a shareable link and email it or share it just like you would a web link.
You can access Google Mail, Calendar and Drive from the top navbar on the Brightspace home page at my.CSS.edu.
Take time to learn more. Go to Google Workspace Learning Center. Click Learn by product to see how each app works.
Streamline your workflow by integrating your Brightspace calendars into your Google Calendar. The calendar updates every night, so newly added Brightspace calendar content will appear in Google Calendar the next day. You can then open the Brightspace assignment (or the like) from your Google Calendar simply by adding the Brightspace Calendar URL to your Google Calendar. (Watch video, 1:47)
Zoom is a video communication platform that allows us to communicate and share. The college has a site license and all students get a free account. You can use Zoom to have a virtual meeting with colleagues and to record videos. You can even link your CSS Zoom account to your CSS Google account to live stream videos to Youtube.
Create your Zoom account using your @css.edu email at https://zoom.us (click the "Sign Up Free" button)
