To be eligible for a Doctorate in Nursing Practice Degree, candidates for the DNP degree must have a minimum of 500 practice hours related to the DNP Essentials. A portion of these hours will be required experiences with associated assignments in the DNP core project courses, but most are chosen by the student.
Collectively, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) refers to a broad range of individual, population, and social constructs. It is adapted in the Essentials as one of the most visible concepts. These concepts are interrelated and interwoven within the domains and competencies, serving as a foundation to students’ learning.

Health disparities adversely affect groups of people who have systematically experienced greater social or economic obstacles to health based on their racial or ethnic group, religion, socioeconomic status, gender, age, or mental health; cognitive, sensory, or physical disability; sexual orientation or gender identity; geographic location; or other characteristics historically linked to discrimination or exclusion” (US Department of Health and Human Services (2010).
