Best Practices for Social Studies

In this module, you will find a K-5 section, a 6-12 section, and a general Social Studies resources section. In the grade-level sections, you will find a model of how to transform a traditional face-to-face lesson plan into a virtual learning experience for students. Each virtual lesson includes an introduction to online resources and tools, collaborative activities between students, embedded videos and links, and multiple options for instructional activities for teachers.

Additional content includes:

a. A Tech Tool - Instructional Activity alignment document. If you need a tech tool to help with discussions, timelines, maps, student collaboration, writing, etc. check out the "What Tool Should I Use" button.

b. A spreadsheet of FREE and VIRTUAL Professional Development for Social Studies teachers. This document will be updated throughout the year so check back often to see if there is something you would like to attend.

c. A list of virtual resources for teaching 6-7th grade social studies GSE. In the absence of Discovery Education, many teachers are looking for supplemental resources for their classes.
