HOW PARENTS CAN HELP AT HOME WITH WRITING

Encourage your child to write every day using a range of motivations. Writing can be either in a book or on a device. Google Docs is best for writing on a device.

Children can write:

  • Letters or emails to family and friends.

  • A diary of what happens each day.

  • Narratives - made up stories with a setting, characters and plot.

  • Notes to family members.

  • Recipes.

  • Signs for their bedroom.

  • Labels and lists.

  • Some other motivations - retell a story or experience, use your five senses and explain what you saw, heard, felt, tasted, magazine pictures, topics of interest to your family, instructions and procedures.
